No, I didn't when my son was a baby. I kept him in warm clothes so he wouldn't get cold. If I put a blanket on him, he would squirm around and end up with it over his face, so I had to quit doing that.

No.

Newborns, in the first month are totally fine being swaddled and wrapped up tightly in a blanket, but the blanket should never be left loose.

After that, you can use a blanket sleeper. Babies are very good at kicking things and pulling them up over their face, so it's safer not to use one at all. It's a SIDS risk.

NOOOOO. using a blanket is a sids risk. if you do, the safest way to do it is to wrap the blanket no higher than chest level on the baby and tuck it under the crib mattress. but really the best thing to do is buy a sleep sack (halo brand is the best). they keep the baby cozy and eliminate the sids risk. another bonus to the sleepsack i have found is that after a month or so, my daughter associated the sleepsack with sleep, so it made the nap and bedtime routine even easier. please don't use a blanket. (also unsafe are any plush toys in the crib)

I'm sorry, but yes. I put a blanket on my children when they slept. I've tried the swaddling, they wiggle out of it ( and yes, I was doing it right ) and dressing them in warm clothes. They sleep underneath a blanket. I just don't believe in all of these statistics. They also said a few years ago that it was fine to use a baby bumper, but now it's not. You just have to do what you were taught to do. And nobody on this board should get a thumbs down for how they do with their kids.

They my son was very new I didnt. I put him in a sleeper and then in a sleeper bag. So he was effectively wearing his blanket and it couldnt get tangled around his face or neck.

When he was about 3 months old I would tuck a blanket over him and into the sides of the crib. But always a knitted blanket, because they have so many holes.

No... to decrease the risk of SIDS do not put a blanket.. Even though you try to avoid the blanket covering their nose, the movement can still cause the blanket to cover their face and they can suffocate. Have you ever heard of Halo sleep sacks? Its a blanket the baby can wear.

My baby was a spring/summer baby. I would swaddle her in a lightweight reciving blanket, she loved being all snuggled in there. Then I put her in a onise to sleep with the swaddling that always worked for me. Now that she is older she sleeps in a onise with a blanket sleeper, along with her little cuddly thing. It is a blanket patch with eeyore up top. She doesn't sleep with a blanket. She is always warm enough in the onise and sleeper. :)

if they are well dressed, warm and sleeping soundly i wouldn't worry. if you newborn seem to be a heavy sleeper and it will make you feel better...sure, put a light blanket on them. if you newborn is a light sleeper and you just want to do it to feel better and are worried about waking him/her up. just leave it. all a newborn wants is to be warm, fed and sleeping.

should you put a puffy comforter or duvet on them? no. that carries a risk of suffocation. but a light receiving blanket or other thin blanket is fine. swaddling usually works best.

One of mine liked to be swaddled in a blanket, the other didn't so I just dressed him warm enough so no blanket was needed. I didn't put loose blankets over either of them.
