hahahhahhah
that is scary and so sad..
go take the knife away from this babyyy asap!
that is someeeething..
i think it is wrong and will give the child the wrong message on how to deal with things in life. violence and hurting is not the key or solution to anything and you have to teach&show that to a child early on so that he/she makes it a habbit. if he grows up doing this, it will surely develope into a big problem and possibly ruin the kids life. bad habbits are hard to brake, and chances are he won't change. no matterhow bad your neighboorhood is(if that is the reason this kid had a POCKET KNIFE @ 4 YRS OLD), it is still not ok..at all. xoxoxoxox♥

4 does seem a little young. I was given my first pocket knife when I was 5.
It is a cultural thing and a maturity thing. I was taught to whittle by my grandfather. He showed me how to care for a pocket knife and not hurt myself with it. Respect it.
ADD: Of course in modern society many "adults" are not bright enough to know which end of a knife to use.
I had to laugh at the woman who said she would not ever let even her adult children use/carry a knife (besides cutlery). Heaven forbid her children should join the Boy Scouts or ever go camping!
PS: My cousin was not given a pocket knife until he was 8 or 9. He was not mature enough to keep it at home like he was told and only take it out for opening X-mas presents and going camping. He did take it to school and grandpa had a "talking" to him. Grandpa kept my cousin's knife in his pocket and my cousin had to ask for it, then give it right back when he was done with it.

No. That is asking for trouble. A 4 year old is not developmentally ready to understand the consequences of using a pocket knife on himself or others. This will result in an injury to someone.
Please advise the person you know against this irresponsible decision.

There is absolutely no way a 4 year old should have a pocket knife. In fact I would still be cutting up his food so he would not get hurt. HOW COULD ANYBODY BE SO IGNORANT

Yes this is a really bad thing to do. The child is only 3 years old, and probably is just getting potty trained! That means you can tell that he isn't ready for such a thing. Did you see on the news? A 3 year old found a gun and killed his family members! You don't want something bad like that to happen, do you?

It depends on the maturity of the child and the rules the parents will set about it. The parents need to tell the child that they are never to use it and never even open without supervision. Maybe I'm partisan because I got my first knife when I was five, but I think its alright if the child is responsible.

Oh come on, knives, sharp objects that can, yes, poke your eye out? 4yr. olds are not able to determine what will hurt them, for example sticking the pocket knife in the outlet, or using it to cut up some toy and the blade slipping and cutting a tiny 4yr old finger? Call children's services.

Definitely bad. Heck, with the way North American society is plunging, pretty much everyone under the age of majority shouldn't have access to a sharp object. Even some that are of legal age are as dim-witted as 14 year-olds around where I am.

Only give it to him if you KNOW the answer to the following questions: Does he Know how to use one? When and where will he use it? WHY will he use it?
I am in the Boy scouts of america in the Life Scout class. And I remember that no one was allowed to use a pocket knife if they earned their totin' chip. The totin chip is a card that shows that the handler knows how to correctly handle a pocket knife. So unless you are hesitant on one of the questions, you should hold off on the blade until he gets his toti chip or is more responsible.
