photos of mortgaged properties are usually taken at the time of appraisal by the appraiser. Later photos are not taken unless and until the property is about to enter foreclosure -- at which time photos are arranged by the mortgage servicing firm looking out for the loan.

does this help?

Generally, you can't.

Mortgage companies do not hire photographers.

Appraisers are actually required to make a trip out to the subject property and take NEW pictures of the comparables.

There are alot of lazy appraisers that pull comp pics off the MLS or public tax records, but that is actually an ethics violation....it's one of the things you are paying for. Just because a property on the MLS looks one way, doesn't mean that 5 years later it still looks the same.

Anytime, when I underwrote loans...if I saw SNOW in the front yard of a comparable...and looked at the calender and noticed it was June...I made the appraiser go back out for a new photo.

You would be shocked at how many times they picked a new comp.
