A few possible reasons:
- Algae bloom, especially if water is green. There are lots of Q&A on algae control in this forum, check them out.
- Bacterial bloom (milky color). In new tank setups can occur after a few days. Bacteria in tap water has been controlled by chlorine. When you dechlorinate it & add to your tank, the bacteria suddenly have no leash holding them back & they can also now make use of the nutrients in the water to very rapidly increase population to the extent they become a visible cloud (imagine if human germs suddenly become large enough to see with our eyes!). In older tanks it can still happen usually due to overfeeding. New tanks should settle soon once the beneficial bacteria have properly colonised your filter & gravel. If it persists, get a water clarifier (flocculent) solution.
- Plants will not cause cloudiness, unless you have plants rotting away (especially if using not true aquatic plants), your top substrate layer is soil that is being stirred up by water current or bottom feeding/substrate digging fish or you are constantly rearranging your plants.
- Brown/tea colored water is likely to be tannins leached out from driftwood or bogwood. Good for lowering pH & for Amazon fish, but if you don't like it activated carbon will easily remove it.
- Presume you are not using any medications, which will commonly change the water color as well.
- Main thing is to keep up regular water changes, keep gravel clean, do not overfeed & perhaps change to food that does not easily disintegrate and have a good filter.

I'm currently having an ongoing problem with cloudy water, and it's driving me nuts! I don't have any live plants in my tank- in fact the bottom is bare too. I removed the rocks thinking the dye on them may be the problem. I have even drained the entire tank, cleaned well, and install new filter. Within a week it's cloudy again and I change 25% water every weekend.
So no, I don't think it's the live plants

Not likely, More likely algae, overfeeding, need to change filter more frequently, needs a cleaning. I would suggest a 50% water change, also for a 30 gal. aquarium you should use both an under-gravel filter and a power filter. I also recomment filter cartridges you can fill yourself. In the filter bag put about 5-6 tbsp activated carbon and 2 tbsp Ammo-Chips. Also on the lift tubes for the under-gravel filter use one activated carbon cartridge and one Ammonia cartridge. Ammonia is an aquariums worst enemy. Try this and see how it does.

Try a recomended dose of aqarium salt for a fresh water tank.In my 55 gal. tank it not only keeps the water clear but it helps to prevent fish diseases!!( it may take 2-3 days to start working)

are you using a propper filter for the tank, overfeeding them, not conditioning the water with water conditioner, or using unfiltered water, all these can lead to cloudy water

you're over feeding. Left over nutrition motives risky micro organism that consumes oxygen. Oder is likewise led to by micro organism. (to no longer be at a loss for words with advantageous micro organism) consequently pass that chemical. enhance your clear out length. Feeder fish nor any fish are had to start algae. gentle is (the extra gentle the extra & quicker algae enhance). you apart from mght could have presented to many fish to immediately in the event that they're gold fish feeders as they have a tendency to be "grimy" by nature. additionally regularly occurring rule a million" of fish in keeping with gal. of water. I take you advise DE-CHLORINATOR no longer chlorine chemical substances as chlorine kills fish. If the water have been left as long as you stated chlorine remover does no longer be needed. Chlorine might deplete interior of forty 8 hours at regularly occurring room temperature. In new tanks via fact no advantageous bacterial have yet developed a unexpected intro of that many fish could desire to truthfully initiate clouding with little filtration. The aeration is help finished shop it going. Given approximately 5days with much less nutrition the tank could desire to sparkling up. you are able to desire to apply a chemical like "sparkling" that motives "airborne dirt and dirt" molecules to bond and be filtered out extra truthfully or sink to the backside, in spite of the shown fact that it may sparkling devoid of it. cut back returned to a million or 2 pinches an afternoon and make confident they devour it in under 5 minutes. placed your funds right into a extra desirable clear out and purchase chemical substances purely while nessary. do no longer sparkling the tank & clear out on the comparable time. in case you do your eliminating all the advantageous micro organism at as quickly as and you will could desire to start the technique over as quickly as extra. sparkling one or the different wait 5-7days and then sparkling the different. you will no longer could desire to purchase starter em-zines. Do use declorinator while doing water ameliorations or addind fish until now forty 8 hrs. except you have properly water.
