I have a problem recently I got a maths tutor and each Saturday I go to her house to have a 2 hour session. But the fact is she scares me, the first time I went to her I felt like crying we sat down and she suddenly started testing me on times table and prime number square number etc ,by the way she’s tutoring me for GCSE, I no I'm not thick but was tired and under pressure and when I got something wrong she looked at me like "your a thick idiot". The second week I did actually cried. My dad is the one taking me and we had agreed it would be easier for us if it was on a weekday and earlier as at the moment its 6-8pm . So I asked her and she goes fully booked so I thought fine and since Christmas is coming I want a couple of weeks break to see family etc but I said that to her and she looked at me as if she was disgusted I 'd even ask. So we left it and got on with work she'd had looked and said it too me so blunt, mean and the work was hard and if I didn't get it she frowned at me.

So yep i cried she was just putting me under so much strain and pressure. She like teaches me but not in a way I would like its just soo harsh and she’s sooo uptight. So should i get another tutor or keep the one I’ve got?

Please get another tutor. You are NOT an idiot! People all learn differently, at different rates, in different ways. You need to be with someone teaching who is gentle and makes math fun. I tutor for a living and call myself a Matherapist. I wish you could see me, but I live in Jamaica. My philosophy is to make math fun and doable for all students. And it works! Please find another tutor. You don't need the stress of this woman.

Blessings! :)

Get another tutor.

A good tutor will test you on various aspects of math in order to find out where you are weak and therefore where she/he should concentrate their attentigood tutor will never berate on.

A good tutor will go over your weak points patiently until you fianally understand them. A good tutor will never berate her/his student. Good tutors will find different ways to explain things until you finally get it.

But it's a two-way street. If you are weak in the multiplication tables, it is up to you to commit them to memory. You have to practice what the tutor tells you, or you will be wasting your time and the tutor's time.

Get another tutor!! A good tutor should
never treat you that way!
It requires a lot of patience and it sounds like
she has none.
Good luck finding someone who can really
help you!

It sounds like you should get another tutor to me. If you feel too much stress you won't find learning easy.

You may be reading more into her reactions than they really mean, but only you can really judge that.

If other tutors are available to you it shouldn't hurt to give them a try.

If your tutor is busy it means she might be really good at her job .
I think you should try and learn throught her way ,don't think that if she is strict about your studies she is mean.I have experienced that most of my tutors who are really good at teaching are strict about studies. If you meet them elsewhere you will find them to be very nice to you.Dont hesitate in going to your tutor just concentrate more on your studies.
