... or are the cash spending Yankees and Red Sox too good, especially in the forseeable future?

It seems doubtful but anything can happen between now and 2017. Who knows, in 10 years Toronto and Tampa Bay could be the class of the AL East.

Honestly, the answer is NO. The Red Sox and Yankees have entirely too much money and revenue and they will always have the expectations to finish first in the AL East. I think the Blue Jays certainly have talent, and certainly are a couple moves away from being a strong contender in the East. The problem is that Halladay can't pitch everyday. If they pick up two other decent starting pitchers, I think they could contend, but in all honest don't have the duration to last 162 games with the two best teams in Baseball.

I live in Toronto and am a Blue Jays fan... but I doubt that the Blue Jays can win the AL East title atleast once in the next decade. I give no chance to the Orioles and D-Rays either. It's mainly because they're all against the Yanks and Red Sox... and for the Jays, they wont win the AL East especially with JP Ricciardi at the helms.

To be honest, I dont see the Blue Jays winning a division title until maybe 2013. The Yankees and the Sox are always going to spend money, and now that the Rays have thier 'land of a million prospects' it makes it even harder for the Jays to win anything.

I don't see it happening, no. Reasons being...#1 - Red Sox #2 - Yankees. The Jays will forever rest in 3rd place..maybe for the rest of eternity.

The Blue Jays, Orioles, and Devil Rays have the worst luck of any team in the majors. How can they compete with the Yankees and Red Sox? Maybe the divisions should be divided up due to payroll or something? Who knows... salary cap anyone?

I doubt it. The best shot they have is if they move the team out of Canada and rake in more revenue that could be put towards better players. A local baseball team is more sought after by Americans than Canadians. The difference in revenue and attendance might make all the difference.

Not a chance.
The Jays won't win another title until there is a salary cap put in place or until they petition to move to another division. It is impossible to beat the unlimited payrolls in Boston and New York.
Too bad. I am a native Torontonian and it would be nice to see another winner in this city.

Yes it can happen with the right mix of talent, smart play, smart management, health and yes, luck.

With profit-sharing in the MLB these days, it does make things a little more fair.

They will soon.

I am a Red Sox fan, but I'm moving to Toronto next year. I bring good-luck wherever I go.
