If you are talking about zoos...it is important for endangered species breeding programs. We need to have stock animals to breed and release back into the wild so they will not go extinct. Also, zoos are important to educate the public..if not for zoos most people would never in their lifetime get the opportunity to see such exotic animals (unless they were world travlers). People tend to be more impressed and care more if they see an animal face to face in a zoo. If someone just showed them a photo telling them the plight of an animal..would they even care? By seeing the animal up close and personal sparks more of an interest in preserving these animals in the wild. If not for zoos, many animals would already be extinct...the California Condor is a good example of this. The Los Angeles and San Diego Zoo are responsible for it's survival. As far as keeping wild animals in captivity as pets, or circuses..I do not agree with this as it serves no educational purpose. Keeping wild animals as pets is cruel and should be against the law.

In case you haven't noticed, much of the earth's natural environment has been destroyed...by man.
Rainforests are disappearing at an exponential rate. The polar regions are melting. Forests are chopped down. The oceans, lakes, rivers, etc are polluted and dammed. Wetlands are drained and altered so that we can build on them. And when wild animals come into "our" territories, we kill them. What type of life do you think most wild animals have?
If we didn't have wild animals in captivity, do you have any idea how many would have become extinct? Captive breeding and releasing saves wild populations. Animals that can not be released back into the wild are wonderful ambassadors for their species, and help educate people about wildlife and encourage them to try and protect it.

It's not something good at all! Especially for wild animals... Some people are keeping their pets in captivity (in cages, for example) because they say that their animals are destroying their home... Well then, I wonder why in the world did they bought them, if they don't like them??

For endangered animals its good,it helps keep their breed safely away from people that kill for money. For wild animals to be kept as a trophy its sick.

Good? More than good it is a necessity. There are far too many people, these people require food. Therefore animals must be kept confined and raised for their meat. You see we humans require a meat based protein source.
Pets on the other hand are an option. There is really no need for humans to confine animals in their homes.
Medical research requires confining animals. Another necessity.

If it keeps their breed alive yes. Hunters are sick and the people who broke into the Chinese zoo and skinned that tiger and froze the baby tigers should burn in hell.
