Last week I had a scary incident when a youth walked into my kitchen. It has made me think about home security.
I know I need a door chain and perhaps an alarm.
does anyone know where I can get help with this.
I thought about help the aged, but I dont live in an area
covered by their vans.

A door chain will buy you about 2 seconds of life.
You need to speak with a locksmith who can give you options. Alarms are nice if they are hooked up to some security agency or the police. And if they are made to sound off loudly and clearly to be heard outdoors.
I don't know if you live alone or what age you are, but you might consider getting trained in the use of a handgun or shotgun. I like the shotgun myself as first choice because it makes a beautiful sound when ******. It speaks the universal language that my home is armed. My second back up choice are the Brothers Smith and Wesson.

To be honest door chains don't really work...they can be broken easily with a kicked in door. Home security alarm systems can be purchased for around $99 on special offers. Other than that, I'd suggest purchasing a STRONG KEYED dead bolt lock for your door[s]..where the lock mechanism can only be accessed from the inside.

I don't know of any places that offer assistance on this kind of problem..sorry!

If you have a Wal-Mart in your area, you can get an alarm system there for your home. They are easy to install as well. They also have the chains there to put on your doors. They even have the alarms that you can put on your windows as well. Really every body regardless of your age needs some sort of alarm system and security on their homes.

I don't know how to help you find someone to install those things for you. You could hire a handyman if you can afford it.
Get someone to install a deadbolt on your doors. I would not use those door chains. The door can be opened enough for a person with a small arm to reach in a open those. I would rather use a deadbolt or those sliding locks or both.
Cut a piece of wood or a dowell rod to drop into the slot opposite of your sliding patio door if you have one of those.
Keep your eyes open. Pay attention to your surroundings. That kid that walked into your kitchen saw you go in and he knew he could follow. I lock my doors even if I am in the yard working. I keep my cell phone and a house key with me. Make sure you lock your doors when you are in the house.

Make it to where if anyone enters your home you hear them! I don't care if you have to put bells on all the doors and windows. The main thing is to be alerted so you can properly unlock your weapon of choice! I agree that there is nothing like the sound of a shot gun shell going into the breach to make an impression! And, yes there is a baby brother there too, one with a little black hawk on it!

Home security can be a big concern in some areas...Have you called "Senior Services"? They are the largest non-profit agency in my area, and they have volunteers, whom will do home repairs, and most things that the senior citizen is not able to do themselves....a large portion of their volunteers, are retired folks, who want to help other retirees live a better life....A wonderful group....

I don't know where you live, so that makes it harder to know who would help you...however, there's usually a "council on aging" type group, or you could contact city hall and ask if anyone there could advise you about services for seniors in your area. In my area they actually have home improvement assistance programs for seniors who need help...good luck, and DON'T wait around!

Call your local senior citizens center. Also maybe someone at your church or even restaurant might be able and willing to help you. Some tv or radio stations might be able to help you find someone safe to do that for you. If you were my neighbor my husband or one of his brothers would help you. Get safe and stay safe. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Try the Citizens Advice Bureau, I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Merry Xmas!
