I have just been to watch my Grand-daughter in her school nativity play. Is there anyone else like me who is glad they dont live in an area where minorities and the political correct idiots want to spoil everything and ban 2000 years of tradition?

My daughter is a primary school teacher. In her class of 30 there are 3 Christians and 27 Muslims/Hindus. They have just done their nativity play in the local church without a single protest from a parent.

Moral of the tale?
Don't believe everything you read in the papers.

I think that the problem lies with lack of tolerance and understanding, rather than political correctness. I don't see anything wrong with schools putting on a Nativity play - although it would be wrong to include non-Christians if they hold strong beliefs to the contrary. As long as no one is forced to participate or forced to attend, I don't see the problem.

I have a very strong suspicion that much of the loony political correctness we see reported in the press is: a) made up; b) exaggerated; c) where it is true, is down to people who want to further their own political agenda by getting noticed - and what better way of getting noticed than stirring up controversy. Let's face it, it has to be easier than doing any grass roots work in the political arena.

Far from political correctness spoiling our traditions, I think more damage is done by the right wing press who whip up scare stories at every opportunity. Apparently, some schools now ban parents from taking photos or videoing school plays, music recitals and other events because of concern over paedophiles. School sports days are banned because parents sue the school if junior falls over and scrapes a knee. Kids are being taught creationism in some schools as a valid theory. When I was at school, Section 28 was in force in the UK which meant my teachers couldn't give gay pupils any advice on the grounds that they were breaking the law by "promoting" homosexuality. Think of the damage that does. The press are remarkably quiet on this kind of thing, though.

We have a Christmas Pagent this year as well. Of course it's a bit different here, we only have a 7% population increase from immigration into Eastern Canada. My head spins when I hear the lengths people are going to be PC. We have a lot of Christmas things here, most are sponsored by the city. And yes they use the word Christmas. So I guess the point is Merry Christmas:)

It infuriates me! We have always had the Nativity play in this country and I do not see why we should have to stop just because of foreigners. If we went to their country would they stop their religious traditions because they might offend us? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!! It is absolutely disgraceful that this pathetic government is willing to cow tow to these people, they should tell them if they don't like our customs then they can go back where they came from! Heck, I'll even put them on the airplane! I for one will fight all the way to keep our traditions, I am not afraid of offending anyone. Hope you enjoyed the play. Merry Christmas.

Is her school a public school? If so, they should not be doing a nativity play. Sorry, but that's the way it goes.

I agree with Razzle and thatgaybloke
I don't always see why PC gets blamed for everything as it's about respecting people which is something that people should do anyways

My nephew's school had a muslim kid as one of the main leads in their play. It can work when they want it to.

When I grew up, this poor child sat outside our music room every December because the public schools still had religious songs. It was horrid of the schools to cause the exclusion of even one child. Same with yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
