When it comes to mages, what spec does the most damage, Arcane or Fire?

What would be the best reason for choosing each spec (i.e. frost is for defense)

Fire has the best dps. Arcane is good for mana regen and conservation. Frost is great if you like to kill things without ever being touched.

most mages i know, are fire spec, it has really powerfull spells.
i know a mage, he is lvl 70 and his fire spells some of them hit 5000 per one hit! i am lvl 67 and he almost kills me in one hit, it takes him like 2 3 hits max to kill me, its crazy.

but i do not have a mage, what you should do is go to www.worldofwarcraft.com and go to the forums and ask on there, i always get an answer on the um general forum, but be careful people on there are real jerks sometimes.

ooo also the guy above said a mix of fire and arcane, this si true, actually if you go to that site i gave you , you can use a talent calculator, and you can see the talent trees and erase them, and see all the moves, and DPS, if you dont know, means damage per second, which is wicked.

yeah on that talent calculator you can do it as many times as you want and just clear it. which is really really nice, cause you can see all the moves you can get and stuff.

Alot of DPS mages that i know, are a mix between arcane AND fire. I would say fire does alot, with pom pyro and things as such, but if possible, stuff a few points in arcane too ;)

i know a guy who has 2 70s with frost on one and fire on the other.....he lvled the frost mage faster he said it was a lot easier to use but his fire spec to longer to get up but can knock the F**** outa some gladiator geared warriors......i only kno this because i helped him lvl them and i did all his pvps and got his gladiator gear
