i keep getting e-mails from abbey national and natwest saying my bank account has been blocked on-line and to click on a link to reactivate it with my details. the e-mails don't address me by name, only dear client. they give a phone number which i rang and it doesn't exist. i don't belong to any of these banks so i ignored the e-mails. i was wondering if this is a scam to fool people into handing over bank details, has anyone else has had them and how can i stop recieving them?

These things are sent out by the millions for every bank imaginable. It's a number crunching exercise .... i.e. someone, somewhere, will belong to that bank and will be mug enough to believe it and possibly respond. What a cheap way to reach millions and scam just a few! You need to laugh at it and forget about it!

this has scam written all over it, particularly as the phone number does not exist, I am an abbey national share holder, and up to now, they have only ever comunicated with me through snail mail concerning money matters, so go ahead and delete the e-mail, better still, why don't you pop into your local branch and inform them, they may want a copy of the e-mail and it's headers.

It is a scam if you are not associated with these banks.

Can you block e-mails? Go to your settings or something, you can block them that way.

Hi

This is definitely a scam so don't click on any links, just delete them as soon as they arrive.

You could add them to your blocked emails depending on which email client you use.

Hope this helps!

Yep it is scam for sure. There is nothing you can do to not receive it. You could use mailfilters to throw them away immediately if they have something in common, like subject or sender.
