"The "war on terror"approach has backfired. Instead of making the United States safer, it has spawned even more terrorism and left the US with fewer allies."
What is your opinion on this??

Lol…no I have not been listening to Air America. I just like to read. Also I am not a American citizen, and NO he is not my fav liberal buddy. It is actually your(if you are American) former US senator from North Carolina who said this. He is a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

You've been listening to Air America again haven't you? Or is it your favorite liberal buddy. My opinion is this is a crock of s-h-i-t. We are safer and our allies are still our allies. (Except for France and who cares about France.) (almost forgot John Kerry but I don't care about him either) When we win the allies that are on the fence will say they always supported us.

The "war on Terror" is a global fight, not just ours. Since there have been no more attacks here in America, but in other places in the world, I would say our efforts are working well.
The only "mistake" was the intel screw up that caused our entirely unnnecessary invasion of Iraq. The only way terror will end (or should end) is when there is a real lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Until that problem is permanently resolved, terror will continue. Or at least the "excuse" for it will continue.
In my opinion, terror isn't soley about the Israeli/Palestinian issues. In my opinion, Terror is the result of Islamic extremeists trying to subject the entire world to their radical interpretations of Islam, killing all of those who disagree with them, or refuse to convert.
Again in my opinion, IF Isreal & the Pals were to cement a lasting peace deal, the radical factions in the world would still continue their murderous ways as their giving in would be interpreted by themselves as surrender & disgrace. They will choose what they consider "martyrdom" and choose to go out in what they see as a blaze of glory, being rewarded with 72 virgins. Imagine that. Professing themselves to be so holy, and us so sinful, yet they are hoping to achieve an eternity of endless lust. How hypocrital & twisted is that?

As an outsider I think the US is now safer, but has made more people loathe the US.
The sad fact is, that it is fuelled by a mislead minority in the Muslim world.
The US still has it's allies but many are not recognised.
NZ isn't mention on any of the US news programs with regard to Iraq or Afghanistan.

The approach started out well, but like all US military missions it has become a fight not just against the perceived enemy, but against all the enemies made after the invasion of Iraq. Don't let anyone kid themselves, the US has hardly any allies left. All of Europe is only supplying troops because they are too cowardly to say no. Every large scale poll of populations is against continued occupations.
I am ambivalent about the occupation, but not about the arrogance of the US to start any war it pleases. You reap what you sow.

More American soldiers have died than the victims of 9/11,
in Iraq and Afghanistan. US economy is in doldrums being
now liable to pay close to 1000 trillion dollars to China and Japan. Petrol prices are becoming unbearable. And the peace and safety is as evasive as it was six years ago.

You are correct, but there is another aspect not discussed. The CIA even under Charter found and funded some SOB, so image what they are doing under one of most corrupt presidents, and how this will come back to bite us.

Less safe? I must have missed the news on the last terrorist attack in the U.S. Let's see, there was the big attack on 9/11/01. Please update me on the attacks in the U.S. since then.
