Every year, people ask me what I want for Christmas. Every year I tell people to buy me candles. Then, all I get is NHL gear. I have received 8 items of NHL team merchandise, and it isn't even Christmas yet. I truly do love hockey, but I don't need my clothes to remind people everyday that I am a big fan.

Am I being juvenile? Am I looking the gift horse in the mouth? Does anyone else get bombarded with ridiculous amounts of NHL shirts, hats, and key chains? How do you tell people, I like hockey, but I am the opposite of a packrat, and I already have way too many clothes as it is?

I hope you got lots of gift receipts.

Tis the season for returning,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
Buy the candles, keep them burning,
Fa-la-la-la-la,la-la-la-la
Do not tell them what you're up to,
Fa-la-la, fa-la-la, la-la-la.
Or they'll send a cross-check to you,
Fa-la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la,LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

This is funny to me, because my boyfriend's mother got me a Buffalo Sabres scarf for Christmas. It matches my Sabres earband, ball cap, socks, tee shirts, coffee mug, Christmas ornament, and stadium blanket very nicely. I'm just glad nobody's gotten me any of that God-forsaken "women's wear" with the rhinestones and the pink and the skin-tightness. I suggest wearing/using as much of your NHL stuff as you can whenever you see someone who has you on their Christmas list, and making some sort of crack about how you feel like a billboard and couldn't fathom what you would do with any more NHL stuff. Simple and not mean, just truthful.

It took a few years to get the point across, and I'm a lot older too, but our family doesn't get carried away with stuff.

I kept telling them that I don't need team clothing because I like to buy what I want. I suggest telling them that instead of saying you want candles, tell them in such a way that you sound like you are thinking out loud.

"Wellllll, I got more hockey merchandise than I'll ever need, but I'm really into candles."

tis the giving not the receiving that matters. that why baby Jesus regifted the muir that he couldn't use yet was given anyway. serious remember the power of the regift, buying gifts can be hard and while u say u like candles people hear blah blah blah. so on anything over 10 put a sticker of who gave it to you so u don't regift back. under 10 throw in a box for lil "office" gifts. it is the thought that counts believe me getting nothing sucks....

i for one actually enjoy it.

maybe your the hockey Grinchette

haha, come on, if your a fan, you gotta flaunt it right? (And whatever else you have ;])

if you really dont want to, then next year when asked what you want, make it clear, "I want this and this, but i dont think i want any hockey stuff this year"

haha, i dont know why, but your questions make this section fun, oh and btw, stay away from those horses, i hear they bite.

At least you are getting something. I know what you are saying about to much stuff, but I have been at both ends of the spectrum. I have had to much stuff and I also have been homeless on my as$ with NOTHING. Let me tell you from experience that to much stuff is a whole hell of a lot better than no stuff.

What I would do is keep getting them the same type of gifts over and over then they might ask why?

PS. I guess I would have given you a better answer but I'm the "new guy" who brings "crappy beer";)
