I only use Butter for cooking occasionally and it is kept in Fridge. I use Flora and it is in a Butter Dish kept in Fridge.
Years ago when a Child my Mother would only use Butter,Not many People used Margarine . She kept it in a Pantry and when Weather was Warm would put it and Bottles of Milk down by the Cold Fireplace as this was the coldest place in the House ,no Fridges those Days.Around 1970 we got our first Fridge.

Kept in the fridge, but I prefer it left out for a little while before you use it, so it softens. I'd use a butter dish if I had one, or used butter often enough to need to buy one. Cooking butter is just kept in the fridge.
(Note this proper butter not margarine. Don't use much butter these days but nice for a treat.)

In the fridge. One Christmas Eve, when my brother-in-law and his family were staying with us, his wife left the butter on the kitchen table. When I went down to prepare breakfast on Christmas morning, I discovered that the dog had eaten it! Luckily I had a reserve pack (in the fridge).
