There are not enough Dems in congress to override presidential veto or keep Reps from filibuster (delaying tactic to kill bills). They only have enough to vote in ways that would ultimately make them look like bad guys i.e. no funding for troops in Iraq which leaves our soldiers stuck and ******* over. Just plainly not enough Dems or people with any brains in congress to overcome the idiot & crook we (including me) elected president

Democrats voted with the Republicans to start the war...now they think they can just end it? Wrong again...
It comes down to the fact that regardless of who has the majority in the House and Senate, it takes a majority to pass any legislation to do anything...and where the war is concerned...it just isn't happening. Even if the Congess were to pass a bill ending the war, Bush wouldn't sign it, and there would never be enough Republicans to join in to override the veto.
Add to that the fact that if the Democrats succeeded in ending the war by cutting funding off (like they've tried twice), they'd all be run out of office for leaving our soldiers stuck in the middle of that God-forsaken desert...

the web site listed is a part of the big picture why were really there. OIL, modern society runs on the stuff, and the Neo-cons have had their eyes on the "second biggest reserves behind only SA"* saw a chance to grab it before the Chinese beat us to it.
Plus Saddam was making noise about selling his OIL for Euros instead of dollars and that would really be a disaster for us. Irony is, all the borrowing GWB has been doing to finance this Occupation has caused it, dollars devaluation, quicker than if Saddam could have. (tax cuts in the middle of a war has never been done before and the dollar is the worse for it)

The only way for them to stop the war is to cut funding for the war. However, this would be seen by a lot of people (read: those who are ignorant of most everything that is going on in the world but are still allowed to vote) as being a slap in the face to the troops.
The Dems don't have enough votes to override a veto, so they can't just send a bill to the President ordering him to immediately start withdrawing the troops. He would simply veto it and laugh while they tried in vain to get enough votes to override.
So, yeah, they said they'd get the troops out, but there's a lot more to it than is readily apparent.

They are too busy holding press meetings with paul simon to be bothered to live up to any of their campain promises.
I love everone who doesnt understand your question and just resort to the usual statements of blame the republicans and Bush.
Yet they forget that if they really wanted to the Dems could put an end to it since they have a majority in both branches.
The problem is even with a majority they can get a bill to pass without so much pork in it that it looks like the menu at Bob Evans.

The war is over.
But there is no way of leaving Iraq.
We are obligated to stay to fix a country which we broke.
Leaving Iraq without fully rebuilding the country will be like what the countries did to Germany leading up to WW2.
If it wasn't so risky, we could bring more capitalism and have foreign companies (Coca-Cola, McDonalds, etc.) investing, raising their economy.
