Assuming that I am wearing clothing and my usual array of pocket-litter is already on my person (which includes a pocket notebook, pens, my grandpa's swiss army knife, and my wallet), and assuming large items such as desktop computers, TVs, furnature, and other such things are not practical to take, I would take the following items-
My Bible- it is my lifeline to eternity. I wouldn't dare go far from home without it.
My notebook- my most useful personal tool (besides my computer). I tend to get mentally and creatively frustrated without it.
My physics book- currently, I would take it because such information might prove useful in a post apocalyptic world, and I haven't studied the subject well enough to have it all committed to memory... yet.
HOWEVER- if the "moon breaking up" event happened after I had a chance to finish studying the subject, I would change item #3 to the following:
My Game Boy- what better way to keep myself sane in a post-apocalyptic world then spending some time playing Advance Wars? I find imersing myself temporarily into an interactive world such as a video game can be very stress releiving and keeps my brain stimulated, creative, and ready for more serious problem-solving tasks.
Edit- a possible alternative to the game-boy, especially considering the possibility of limited or no electricity, would be my recorder. A shabby insturment, but it could have a similar effect as the game-boy, without need for electricity, and with entertainment value (or possibly annoyance value) for those around me.

1. My Cat because he is part of my family.
2. My wallet because it has all of my important documents.
3. My ciggarettes because there is a chance I might die and I might want one more smoke before I go.

I take my gun because with that kind of confusion comes terrorists, rapists , and violent looters. I take my book o' IDs (this houses my Ids, my bank account stuff, my familys IDs, and any fake IDs) , and assuming my dog is safe I take my scrapbook.
