It's tragic that this once-great nation has been fighting a war for nearly five years and our citizens still have to wonder why we're involved. Like pathetic sheep, we have sacrificed the principle of "open government" upon the altar of insecurity. Since Bush, Cheney, and Rice are have ties to the oil industry, I think that's the single most important reason, although the war profiteering guaranteed that the Pentagon would play along...

War Profiteering more than anything is my opinion.
However, does it really matter at this point? It doesn't look like we will be getting out of there before 2012 at the soonest unless Bill Richardson, Ron Paul, or Dennis Kucinich gets elected.
I was going to go into a huge rant here about my disappointment with the Democrats right now, but I figure this isn't the right venue.

The rest of the world knows its all about power and greed and oil,.
Saddam refused to be won over by smooth talking economic hitmen, Had he done so America would have let him go on his saddistic way. While american companies like Becktel and Haliburton, Could make billions flow into the pockets of the cheny's and the Bush families
Next.. The CIA jackals couldnt take him out so the last resort was war.

Well, we were told it was to spread democracy and some still believe that. Meanwhile, we've killed hundreds of thousands, made refugees out of thousands, lost nearly 4,000 of our own and turned a lot of their country into piles of rocks. Now, they are killing each other in what is called, "Not a Civil War" and democracy seems further away. So, I have to go with "Oil" and "war profiteering", because they are the same thing.
ADD: I've read every answer ahead of me...where are all of
conservative answers?...interesting, isn't it?

Which ONE? War/Oil equal. You forgot somewhere to have a military base in the middle east and near Iran just in case Bush can make something else up as a reason to invade a country.

War profiteering! Its so obvious or we would have been out of there by now. It is so criminal and I am so apalled that no opne has been brought up on charges yet. During WWII, they had war profiteering hearings going on all the time, keeping the 'checks and balances'. Its so unbelievable that people are just pretending its not happening. Our soldiers are being killed for money.

OIL! because we had to get to it before the Chinese beat us to it. Irony is, when the Iraqi's finally kick US out of their country they're gonna sell it to the highest bidder anyway.....one guess who that will be!!
Follow the link below and its all spelled out in there. They've been planning this since 1987+/-.

Bush wants an excuse to seem all important by sending troops over.
Nahh, he's looking for nuclear weapons that don't exist.
Yeah, that's it.
