the Final fantasy franchise is probaly my second favorite video game franchise of all time next to resident evil,,, I have finaly talked my 63 year old dad into playing 1 of the final fantasy games, hes not too teribly video game savy, but I think he can do ok.

I dont want to use anything before 4 really, and I definatly dont want to use mystic quest, so im looking for some imput on what yall think would be the best / easiest final fantasy game for a new comer to the series to hop into?

I was thinking either 6 or 7 because both are some what linear and leave a lasting impression on the player, anyways any input and or sugestions would be greatly apreciated.

I think Final Fantasy X would be a good choice. It has a good story, and is extremely easy and linear. My second choice would be FFVI. FFVI was my first FF game, and I thought it was pretty easy to pick up and play.

I think the simplest, yet most entertaining of the whole lot is FF4 (2 in the US). You don't have to worry too much about the magic system since it develops on its own as the characters level up. Same with weapons, each character pretty much has a dedicated weapon type so mixing and matching doesn't get in the way too much. The story line is also really decent as well. I am somewhat biased - it is the first game I started out with. =)

The earlier the better, I would use:

I- on PSP or GBA (Playstation/NES versions are harder)
IV- On GBA or SNES (II on SNES, but you prob. know that)
VI- On GBA or SNES (III on SNES, again you prob know)

I would reccomend IV forv ery linear game play and easy weapon/magic system. VI is a lot more fun though. And of you don't already know this, don't buy the old Final Fantasy games on Playstation when possible, the load times are FAR TOO LONG.

XIII-2 isn't a undesirable game, yet once you have in no way performed the sequence earlier, i might propose getting FF-X (playable on PS2) and commencing with that. i think of that game replaced into between the precise 2 interior the franchise (whether its sequel, FFX-II replaced into, for my section, the worst). i might additionally play FF XIII earlier XIII-2, no longer while you evaluate it fairly is an astounding game (it fairly is no longer very solid in any respect, certainly), yet because of the fact i think of it make a contribution critically to the back tale of XIII-2.

I would think tactics, due to the style of gameplay. A strategy-based playstyle might be more fitting for him.

Also, FF12 has a more mature plot he might prefer. Not to mention the very mature "feel" of the game. (It's so beautiful!)
