What happens if I have a 2" hitch and the 2" ball doesn t fit for some reason? I could only make the 1 7/8"ball work in order to travel, but it is a little lose. Can t figure out what has changed and why the 2 in ball no longer works. I have tried hammering the the latch further out. Any thoughts?

The hitch will fit on the ball, but it will not be secure!! Get teh correct size ball for the trailer you are towing! A tow ball costs less than $10. Why would you risk having the trailer come free on the road (and maybe cause a fatal accident)?

NO!
It will go on, but probably won't actually clamp (so the trailer will take off at some point).
1"7/8 will work with 50mm but DO NOT try to mix either with 2".

you need to get the right size ball or the hitch will come undone. If you adjust the hitch tounge to the size it might work but i wouldn't risk it

The risk is the trailer will pop off the ball. It won't ever happen while the vehicle is sitting still. Only under the stress of moving.
