Sir,
if the religion is pure, no expression can harm it.
If religious sentiments are hurt, must be some wrong with the religion itself.
Freedom of expression should rather enhance the religious sentiments.
I would suggest you to change the topic or go against the motion.

You must differentiate between religion and religious sentiments.
At the core all religions say the same thing. Yet there are so many interpretations and contentious arguments even within one denomination that a lot of confusion results.
When you talk about freedom of expression, you must consider that this may lead to making some statements that can raise a few hackles. One has to accept that people ARE opinionated. May be completely illogical, but that is what they passionately believe in.
Any statements that go against that will affect their sentiments. Bound to lead to major altercation. May lead to violence even.
Think on these issues and come up with a cogent argument.

it would only be a detriment of religion if the person listing to the talk was insecure in their faith. I personally can hear others express their religious opinions and not be swayed by what they say.- because I am firm in my beliefs.
Freedom of speach comes with a price....which is sometimes hearing things that we don't like or don't want to hear. So, that means that if we let people control what we say there would be no freedom. Also, who would judge the religious sentiments if there were a control on the speaking of faith.
Loss of freedom of speach means tyrany or other forms of government which would control what the masses of people think. And if the rulers had their own version of faith, that would make the masses believe what whom ever is ruleing thinks on their version of "religion"
Good question.

Science and religion often conflict with each other. Lots of examples but it depends on the particular religion. Suppose scientific studies show homosexuality is more common among twins for instance, or the age of the world is older than prophesied.
