Yeah they're good cars, except for the A/C belt squealing like a greased pig. Most mitsubishi cars have that issue though. Depending on the year, stick with a 5-speed, as the pre-1997 automatics are weak compared to the later ones.
Also, the 2002+ ES/LS/OZ Rally models all share the 4G94 2.0L engine. The Ralliart has the 4G64 2.4L Mivec, and all of the Evolution 1-9 models possesses the fire-breathing 4G63 Turbo.

own a Lancer and so far(100,000 miles), not a major problem except regular maintenence and I consider it as reliable and worth my money. The Cheapest and the most expensive Lancers share the same engines(except the Lancer Ralliart.)

Yep, they are under-rated. They are generally pretty reliable and because of the EVO, you might even find after market parts that fit a regular Lancer as well. The Ralliart's 2.4L is very torquey and if you can, try to find one of those, you won't regret it.
Another complement I see is how comfortable the Ralliart seats are. It is because the Ralliart seats came from the EVO7 and have great support.
