Many women have to do that to supplement if they don't have enough breast milk so it is safe. If you don't have to do that, it is better to solely breastfeed just because your breast milk tends to diminish quicker if you are consistent with it. Even though breast is best, whether you breastfeed or formula feed, your baby will come out nice and healthy and will do just fine. :o)

Some people claim that babies get "nipple confusion." My son never had any problems. Another issue is his digestion, but as long as you watch what you eat he should be alright interchanging.
My bigger concern is with you: every time you feed him formula, your nipples are not getting stimulated, which is what causes your breasts to continue to produce breast milk. I would leave supplementing to when you are trying to ween him from breast milk. I used to supplement at first because it was so painful and I was having latching issues with my son, and it started to diminish my milk production. I ultimately worked it back up, and successfully breastfed for 5.5 months before they just were not producing enough for him anymore. Good luck!! Oh, one more thing, if you want to get your production up, just pump whenever you have spare time. That will help. Then you can bottle feed him breast-milk rather than formula. Two birds, one stone.

as far as i know, it is safe. my aunts and cousin (and me) did that when they started working. I know people will say that I should express, but sometimes we won't have the time, what with the baby feeding all the time and me trying to get some sleep when he's sleeping. And in the office hour it is hard to do it every hour, especially when you have a busy workload. So yes, you can rotate or combine...different mother had different situation so don't let anyone's opinion dictate your life. good luck

Yes it is perfectly safe. You might want to wean the baby onto the forumla slowly if he/she has always been breastfed, just to give his/her system time to adjust. A lot of people supplement breastfed babies with some formula, particularly when they are going through some growing spurts and the breast supply can't keep up with the demand.

Unless you are not eating healthy, not producing enough milk or your baby has a problem gaining weight, there is no need to give formula. My son was born almost 3 months early and he had to have formula and MCT oil (A special oil to promote weight gain in preemies and other babies with medical problems) mixed together with the breast milk I was pumping and put in his feeding tube.

I had to go back to work, after I had my baby. I wanted to breast feed her, so I did. I didn't like to pump, so I gave her both formula and breast milk. Neither one of use had any problems with it . She's a very healthy baby.

honestly that would be a bad move. you need to choose breast milk or formula if you keep changing between the two could sause the child to have several discomforts like gas. I know my pedi told me to graduly change from one form of food to another but with breast milk it has so much more then formula but if you want to formula feed you need to let your baby get used to it and keep them there.

Formula won't be any more nutritious (or safe) than it normally is just because you don't offer it all the time, and supplementing with it can do in your milk supply... Why would you want to do that, I wonder?

I need more information to understand why you're considering supplementing to help with links relating to your situation. As far as using both, probably not. When I supplemented with my first, however, he became extremely constipated and I had to use suppositories to help him pass his stool. Your baby may tolerated it with no problems, that's just my experience.
