A spectacle maker probably assembled the first telescope. Hans Lippershey of Holland is often credited with the invention, but he almost certainly was not the first to make one. Lippershey was, however, the first to make the new device widely known.
The telescope was introduced to astronomy in 1609 by the great Italian scientist Galileo Galilei, who became the first man to see the craters of the moon, and who went on to discover sunspots,
In 1704, Sir Issac Newton announced a new concept in telescope design whereby instead of glass lenses, a curved mirror was used to gather in light and reflect it back to a point of focus.

Galileo did not invent the telescope. He did not even come upon it untill 1609 after it was already discovered.
However alot of people give credit to the finding to a guy namedHans Lippershey, a Dutch spectacle maker around 1600 AD.
But a group of kids actualy made the discovery one day when they drifted into his shop and were playing with the lenses and happened to notice that certain lenses used in combination made distant objects seem closer. They informed Lippershey of this, he confirmed it, and began making telescopes.
No one ever knew those kids names but they where the ones who discovered it and lippershey made it public whey before galileo.
Most people dont know the story though.

The first one invented was in the Netherlands in October of 1608, But they were refused a patent on it because the government said it was too-easy to copy. It was made famous by an Italian Professor and Experimenter named Galileo Galilei in the summer of 1609 at the University of Padua near Venice. Hope this helped! Hans Lippershey invented the telescope. Galileo used it to look at the stars, and discovered that Jupiter had moons.

galileo was also an extremely gifted mathematician and experimenter and was able to "do things" technologically that no person had ever done before.
