This professor of mine was very good! I wanted to let her know so I was thinking of writing her an email saying, "Dear, Dr. So and So, Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy new year. Thanks for making your classes so inspirational."

It does sound a little cheesy, but I think it is a good idea.
Better yet I would tell her/him what you liked about their class and how they taught it. To most teachers the job can get a little boring as they seem to be churning out a mill of students and grades. The occasional nice note is something that can make their day, but I would include details on why you liked it. Then they would have positive feedback on what they did right and can push that in the future. If nothing else it is a nice thought, most students want to go on Christmas break and forget school and their teachers as fast as possible. By showing a little extra care and attention you can make sure you are memorable to them and even make the year memorable to them.
At least it can’t hurt. Showing that you are a nice person and care about others is the true Christmas spirit and many people don’t remember this. If you show it then you are showing the spirit of the season.

Maybe it's a little cheesy, but it's still nice for a professor to hear that a student actually enjoyed his/her class. Besides, since there's probably a bunch of emails from students complaining about their grades and begging for bonus points after the fact, a little positivity and well-wishing would probably be much appreciated.

I don't think it's cheesy. Since you aren't in her class anymore she'll know you aren't just kissing her butt and probably really mean it. I say you send it. It's good that a teacher inspired you. I hope I get a professor like that.

No, it is not too cheesy. We professors get little enough appreciation of our efforts - we really do like it when students let us know they learned something, especially after the grades are out and we are sure that the intent was not self-serving!

I think that would be a nice thing to do. You may also consider sending a letter to the head of the dept that she is in, telling them what a great job she did and how much you enjoyed her class.

no way i took some teaching classes cause i thought that was what i wanted to do and i know teacher love the appreciation and its not liek it all random or your sucking up for exams.. its just kinda liek sending an email xmas card like you would send out cards to friends and fmaily.. just make sure theyre not jewish ha!

I can tell you really appreciate people. If you send this e-mail to your professor they will appreciate it. It is not cheesy, but very thoughtful. There should be more people like you, thankful.

I think you should send it. Professors probably don't get much appreciative mail because people think it is brown-nosing. I believe when we find a person who does a good job we should recognize this to them.

That is perfect. Most professors/teachers are just happy to hear that at least one student is paying attention. It will make her/his year knowing you do.
