Do you need a credential like the CBEST aside from the master's degree?

This question actually has several different avenues that answers can go down. First off it depends on what state the community college is located, and the specific state requirements, as well as the schools requirements. Then you have to take into consideration what you are teaching and what type of teacher you are going to be...(For example if you are teaching CPR at a community college You DO NOT need a Teaching Credential to teach this, and speaking for myself I teach Public Safety Classes (particularly Fire Technology Classes) and I do not have a Master Degree I have an A.A. in the field that I teach and offset the other requirements with experience years. (I DO NOT HAVE "Teaching Credentials") Therefore my answer to your question would be:

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR SUBJECT MATTER, TYPE OF SCHOOL, TYPE OF TEACHING POSITION and the Mandates of the Educational Jurisdiction you plan to teach.

No teaching education-level credentials are needed. One is merely expected to have mastery in their fields and preferably at least some past teaching experience under their belt. Mastery would indicate a minimum masters degree in the field or higher, or with Voc-tech programs, at least an associates degree in the field. Generally, with voc-tech programs, as they don't emphasize degree education, one is expected to have significant experience in the real-world before they are allowed to actually teach a class (which makes sense, as these programs are to train people for the real-world, and are not like regular college-level classes).

There is no specific credential, but you are expected to have at least a master's degree in your subject matter. In more competitive fields, the master's may not be enough, because they are able to find plenty of people with Ph.Ds.

Generally, you need at least a Master's in the subject you intend to teach. More if you teach at the professor level.
