they were god's chosen people. the nation of isreal. but they didn't remain faithful, so the promise was opened up to all nations through christ. that's why jesus died, to open the way for all that will take life's water free. it's also the reason that the jews deny that jesus is the messiah. if they admit he is the messiah, they will have to admit they are not the chosen ones any longer. and jesus also freed us from the mosaic law.
