That earlier comment about keeping my legs shut if I don't want to be a mother is really offensive. I'm not going to live in a sexless marriage nor am I going to have more children than I can possibly afford. So guess what? I'm going to compromise by using contraceptives most of the time so I'm not faced with the situation of deciding whether to have an abortion or dreading the possibility of yet another mouth to feed.

It would definitely decrease but they're will always be back alley abortions or flying off to another country to have one done. Probably most desperate women or girls would go to such lengths as throwing themselves down a flight of stairs or taking something to give birth early and leave the fetus in the toilet. I don't think that justifies keeping abortion legal though. If you used that kind of logic in other things there would be no reasons for any laws at all.

I remember when abortion was illegal. The only effect was that there were more illegal abortions, more young girls "going away to school" and more orphans.

But as a man, I have always wanted that control, so I used a condom until I was ready for children.

No. Women have always known of ways to cause a spontaneous abortion, or miscarriage. There are herbs that ancient people knew of very well, they are mentioned in ancient Egyptian, Greek, Indian and Sumerian texts.

Women would continue to control their procreation as they have always done.

Does anything illegal stop? Nooope.

If abortion became illegal, I'd offer to punch pregnant women in the stomach for $50.

What's more important a woman dying because she preforms a home abortion, or safely getting rid of something that hasn't developed yet?? As Florynce Kennedy said If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

Not at all. In fact I think the possibility of illegal and unsafe abortion, is one reason it stays legal. This way they there are regulations to be sure the environment is as safe as possible.

Abortion does Not stop when and where it is illegal. There are fewer of them and they are dangerous that's all.

Edit: above, what about the man being responsible too??

Edit2: hmm..intimidating women from doing what they feel is right for them with their own bodies? How honourable..

When it was illegal in the past it still happening, women would get it done in back street abortionists and often died from botched operations. Some even did it themselves with kniting needles, throwing themselves downstairs or pouring bleach down them.

It never has before. If anything, making abortion legal has only lowered the abortion rate; after a small explosion after Roe v. Wade, it dropped 6%.
