It sounds like a clogged tear ducked. Very common in new borns. Dr will prescribe some medications and it should go away after a few days.

The same thing happened to my daughter, her eye would have this horrible yellow/greenish discharge gunk and it seemed like it didnt matter if I just cleaned it or not. I was told it is just a clogged tear duct? and to use a warm compress to help open it up. She will be 5wks old on Christmas day and so far it looks to have healed itself because she hasnt had the gunk in a week...but the bad news was I had to deal with it for the first 4wks of her life.

almost all moms go through it. I did as well. I was so worried and my son was only 4 days old. It is a clogged tear duct but yes still make her an appt in the morning with the DR. Keep warm cloth on it and clean it the same way. Massage it soft as well. It will go away soon. Mine took a few weeks for my son.

All 3 of my children suffered with that, including my newborn.
I just use cooled boiled water on Cotton wool and wipe each eye whenever the eye looks crusty, but use a fresh piece for each eye.
It cleared up in a couple of days.
Try this first, but if it doesn't go away in a day or 2 or gets worse, see your GP.

It could just be cause baby's tear ducts don't function properly in the first couple of months. My daughter had this and I just used warm salted water (as recommended by the nurses and my GP)and it cleared it up. But do speak to your Dr as well about it in case it is something else

Probably a blocked tear duct. Take a warm washcloth and massage the inner corner of her eye where the duct is several times a day.

an infection. If you want to clean it, use warm water and a clean cotton ball wiping from the inner part of her eye (by the nose) toward the outside of the eye. Throw that cotton ball away and use a clean one to do the same to the other eye. Then be sure to wash your hands well after doing that so that you don't transfer her infection to your own eyes.

It could actually be a numerous of things...sometimes if something gets into a babies eye...and they are young...it doesnt sit well with them and makes them get an infection...in my case my daughter got that really bad in one eye...turned out to be a mild case of pink eye!! so my suggestion for now...take a luke warm wash cloth and wipe her eye...VERY GENTLY!!! shes is just a baby!! and hopefully when u take her to her appointment...they will give her ointment!!
GoOd LuCk...sorry you have to deal with that poor baby is soo young!!

It's a clogged tear duct. My daughter had one when she was around 2 weeks, but she got over it, and hasn't had one since, and she is 10 months now. Just keep giving her the meds your doc gives you, and she will be fine!

Hi.
Well, the same thing used to happen to my nephew.. but to both his eyes.. one eye more than the other. We went to the doc and they ran some tests on him. gave some medicine for his eye and it was all better.. But you should treat it right away, or the doc said that it will only get worseee!
good luck
