Tell me you haven't received a gift where you're like WTF am I supposed to do with this. Then you either re-gift it or trash it.

Unless you're talking about little kids, I would tend to say something like "it's the though that counts, so put a little thought into it".

I agree. I wish people actually did put some thought into it. Scary that they don't seem to, huh?

It's a passive aggressive behavior when people don't give with thought. Personally, I'll either give a needed gift (sheets or money) or some dumbass present because it seems that's what they expect. That's the key word here, expect. I don't like giving what and when I'm not compelled to, and I'm ashamed to say that my attitude manifest itself when I give a gift that I'm expected to give, not that I want to give.

Conversely, people are so different in their thinking that what seems perfectly acceptable to them doesn't necessarily jive with our tastes. My in laws regift the same odd gifts over and over and they all get a big kick out if. They have to hold it for a year and remember to regift it the next. By that time everyone forgot the wierd gift so it's good for a laugh when it gets opened...again.

yes..i totally agree..knowing that most people or friends have a financial problems or "budgets" but still remembers you on that special day is enough reason for appreciating the gift not the price of the gift...
