Bands you hated growing up, or even bands you hated more recently, for example bands who were widely hated in the late 1990's/early 2000's such as Creed, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit do you find yourself not hating them as much anymore because of the crop of much worse bands who are around today?

In a word, yes. This all goes back to that saying of be careful what you wish for in terms of really bad bands going away. This is because what ends up replacing them are always much worse. During the 80's, I was stuck with Culture Club, Lionel Ritchie, and Mister Mister, bad by any standards. Then the 90's arrived and we got hit with the aforementioned Limp Bizkit, Creed and Counting Crows. Of course in the here and now we are plagued with this mutant strain of emo with MCR, FOB and P!ATD. All three of those bands make Mister Mister sound like The Beatles by comparison.

Yes. I think this also has to do with the fact that our tastes change as we grow. I know that I used to hate a lot of 80s music...(even though I was born in 81) and now it's kind of nice and nostalgic even when I hear it.

You are right though about bands sucking today. In comparison to bands 10 years ago...there's really not any really good music anymore. I remember buying a cd and liking the whole thing...like Sublime, Bush, or Pearl Jam. Now, I couldn't imagine buying an entire cd. Downloading singles from itunes or Napster and listening to them until they are tiresome...those older bands are classic and never get tiresome.

It don't get much worse than Creed Slipknot and Limp Bizkit, unless You mean MCR FOB and Nickelback.
But I know what You mean, I hated the Stones as a teen and they are one of My fave bands now.

I was thinking of doing a similar thread. ('Bands you missed the boat on')

I can't say I *hated* these bands, but during their 90s heyday, I didn't pay much attention to Soundgarden, Alice in Chains & Tool, but man, I'm really enjoying them now! I have a long track record of this though. This is why very recently, I've been keeping my ears open for new music & trying to give it a chance.

Hate is a rather strong feeling about something as simple as just a band or singing group. I have found many artists repulsive or even some lyrics revolting or foul, but hatred never came into the vocabulary when speaking about my tastes in music.

I liked Creed when their first album came out, but now I realize that they had a good guitar player and a good drummer and thats it. The singer is totally weak.
