It's a gateway system, like much of life is. This helps determine how your future will shape up. But what you're not told or taught is that it's not all just the grades. When you research a paper, how well do you do? Use this not as a gauge of "get good grades, so you can go to a good college, so you can get a good job, and pay bills." Use this to learn. What is it that you like? This is where you go to find out who you are. Will you be another person in some office, working at a job, merely to pay your bills? Will you be a public servant (military, cop, doctor)? Maybe you have talents in a certain area. How can what you learn in school be used to make your life something that you're content and happy with? Perhpas you won't be the next big thing in Hollywood, but you could be the next big thing in your town, irregardless of it's entertainment or community. This is where you are, to learn the steps you need to shape as much of your fate as you can.

OK... first of all grades are just an organized way to show your parents how you are progressing in school. An "A showing that you understand the subject going down to an "F" showing that you are struggling and that you need instance. Getting good grades are important because they show that your doing well in school, giving you a better chance to get into a good collage, giving you a better head start in life.
I'm in the seventh grade( I'm also a "A" student) so I have know experience with high school problems or high school teachers(however I do know that crushing on them is just sick and WRONG!!!!!) I do know that high school prepares you for collage. Everything you do in high school will at one point effect you in collage. Just be a good student and high school will be a breeze.(or so I've been told :)

You are given grades so that the school system, and your parents can access your progression throughout your schooling career. Grades are very important! You need to have good grades to get into colleges that will equip you with the education you need to enter the work force. The better the education you have the better wages you will have. More education equals more money.
As for students having crushes on teachers it is very common. There tends to be a certain admiration for people in control. Teachers often are admired by students. The students will often get over their crushes quickly, teachers may just have to let them down easy. A crush on a teacher is just like a crush on a school mate, they tend to quickly come and will quickly fade.

-High school is important because it shape your future.
- If you're planning to get into a good college, then you have to get good grades.
-If you get into a good college, then you're probably going to make a lot of money if you get a good job.
-If you get a good job, then you'll probably get to buy whatever you want!
Now, about your classmates and their crushes. That's normal, because even I have a crush on a teacher that's married(Yeah, I'm weird, too. =D ). But I'm sure they'll get over it. It's like a crush when you're in 3rd-5th grade.

High school is college prep and that's the only real purpose it serves, other than to keep 16 year olds out of the work force.
Those who are non-college HS majors are basically taking busy work. Study hall, history, more English, arts, crafts, drama, music, shops.
Those in the college major are doing what college expects.
Math to pre-calculus
Politics and Civics
Math Science (Chemistyr, Biology and Physics)
Foregn langauge
Statistics
Economics
All the things college want to see in someone background because at a "real college" if you can't pass the Math and English test you don't get in (and have to go to JC or CC for 2 years and take baby classes and transfer).
There are no slackers in college.
They either don't get in or they get weeded out in one semester, often less (and no refund in tuition, which can be between $6K and 35K)

High school is important because from what I can tell, it's a turning point in our lives. If we don't get good grades, we won't graduate, most likely leaving us to having only small time jobs.
(( I honestly wish we were able to pursue our career ideas NOW, instead of waiting 4 years, wasting so much time on the subjects we don't need for it. ))

If you think high school is difficult and can't make good grades, college is not going to be an option for you because it is 10 times more difficult than high school.

Cuz they are ALL older & smarter than you. Maybe you should listen to them. The girls who are crushing on thier teachers, might just like men who bathe daily.
