I really don't think you're going to make it much faster. The DX is the cheapest trim of the 1990 Civic and came with the base engine- other than maybe stick on a turbo or supercharger on it I doubt you're going to make much progress.

Ignore the "buy American" comments- I love American cars, but that doesn't mean that "imports suck" and "ricerz should get 0wned".

If you are serious about this, you'll need a rebuilt motor/trans and a new front end. That should set you back 7-10,000. With that money, you could buy a car that's already fast that's more valuable than an old civic.

Motor swap. Don't waste your time on the stock D15 motor. Although Ive seen some fast single cams. Go with a motor swap though. like a B16. those motors are cheap (compared to other swaps).I hate people who talk about 4cylinders. I know so many that ll walk supped up 8 cylinders. K20 swap (Acura RSX Type S motor) with intake heads and exhaust runs 12's so its possible. V8 people didn't think about weight did they? your car weights around 2100 lbs? that's nothing. Us 4 cylinder people like to build our horse power. Not buy it. but over all go with a motor swap. A basic B16 swaps going to cost about $3,000.

a 1990 Civic is a 17 year old car, how many years could it have left. I doubt it could be worth spending money on it.

If your good with engines don't waste your time on a econo box like a Honda. Get a real car with a V8 and play with that. Why start with that big a handicap. All you end up with is a car that's not fast and very unreliable.

serioulsly i got one of these same civic, its all stock and goes up to 105mph, if yours only goes 90mph, you should stop messing with it.
These are good cars if you want good fuel milage, but if you want something faster, just get a newer car with better horsepower

imports are cool, but if you want lots of power you should get a v8
