Anyone who has had experience with Hybrids? What do you think about them versus the regular gas cars..

I considered buy one, test drove it and everything. Then I did the math. I figured that I would have to drive the car at least 100K to reach the break even point. That was also including the employee discount. So if you had to pay retail, it may even take more miles to reach the break even point.

I would go with the regular engine. Since the President just signed a new law that the cars have to have a CAFE rating of 35mpg by 2012, the mileage will have to come up real soon.

good luck

Here's the truth about hybrids.

You will be hurting the environment less by driving them. However, you will lose money. If the enviroment or the status of driving a hybrid is important to you, by all means go for it. You'll do a little to counteract the millions of SUVs. But don't be mislead and think you'll save money on gas- the premium charged for the hybrid over a non-hybrid model is much, much more than what will be saved.

I'd have to agree with the first answer. The hybrid is a great idea, but a little pricey for what you get. Then again, if you're really concerned about the environment, use mass transportation , walk or buy a bicycle.

hybrids are fuel efficient and great for the environment...but if u think speed, hybrids are not that fast...while a regular car, can develop speed..

I think they're still too expensive given their "real" gas mileage. Particularly for highway driving.

You can get a Corolla for around $10K - $15K less and get almost the same gas mileage as a Prius.

if the things pointed out in the last Boston Legal episode are true, it was an eye opener.
Hybrids are costing us more money and doing more damage to the greenhouse effects than good.
