I had a baby boy 3 weeks ago and when I go for my 6 week check-up, I plan on getting on some form of birth control, but I know nothing about the different types out there. ( I was told I couldn't have children because I had ovarian cancer and had an ovary and tube removed. I had fertility drugs to conceive my 4 year old, and who knew that sex causes pregnancy? My baby was conceived au natural, lol )
I know there's the shot, a patch, and the regular daily pills. What are the pros and cons of each? Which do you prefer?
Thanks ladies!!
Wendi

The patch has been taken off the market, caused heart and blood problems. The shot depending on which one, if Depo Provera I have read to many bad things for that. And being you have had ovarian cancer they may not put you on B/C because it can cause you cancer to come back. So please think long and hard about that. Iam an ovarian cancer survivor myself, I had a complete hysterectomy at 27, Iam now 43, and only had one child, she is 24 and getting married on the 5th of January

Never get the Depo shot. It took my fiance 15 months for her cycle to get back to normal and begin ovulating again. Check your area for a Planned Parenthood or ask your doctor for some ideas... then research very carefully on the net with Yahoo or Google. It's amazing how bad some of the prescriptions can mess up your body.

I am in Depo. Its very convenient 1 shot in the arm or butt every 3 months and you don't have to worry about getting pregnant. I just had a baby on October 15th and prior to getting pregnant with him I was on it but we decided to have another one. The downside of Depo is that it does take a while to get your cycle back on track and it took me a year to get pregnant again. The plus is no period!! Yay LOL!! I was also thinking about Mirena I have heard a lot of good things about it but I chickened out LOL. I like Depo. Congrats on your new edition!!! Good Luck and God Bless!

I use mirena and its awesome no remembering to take something or change anything. Every month after i am done with my period i check to see if the strings are there and i am good. I love it. You must be in a steady relationship if you sleep with more than one person then the thing could hurt a guy if he doesnt know its there depending on how large he is.

Try this

First off, congrads on the new baby!! Personally after my twins were born, I went on the depo shot. You get it once every three months, and for me anyways I had no spotting and no AF every month. The shot was much easier to remember than the pill for me and very reliable!! I would have to say the only downside to it for me is coming off of it, it takes awhile to get your cycles back to normal if you're trying to conceive again!! Good luck & congrads again!!

I loved the shot. You go in every three months and no period! Drawback is it can cause depression. There is also a new thing called the Nuva Ring. It is a plastic circle inserted into your vagina. Google it, my sister loved it. There are lots of pills today that are able to fit into your lifestyle: acne control, pms issues, shorter periods. Ask you doc.

I use the patch and its awesome. you put it on your butt cheek, arm or torso(hip area) and you leave it on their for a week, like if you leave it on itll stay on. The only con was that it was there, the pro was that you didnt have to pop a pill every day at the same time, no wieght gain, no mood swings, and actually I always thought that my cramps werent half as bad as what they were when I was on the pill.

I really like Yaz.....My face doesn't break out and I haven't gained any weight! Yay! It made me feel just a little sick to my stomach the first couple of days, but once you get past that, it's really nice to not blow up like a balloon and get a pizza face! LoL! It might work different for different women, but I would give it a shot. Good Luck!

I have heard really good things about Mirena. Its and IUD that you can have placed for 5 years and take it out whenever to get pregnant again if needed. its really effective and very low horomones so it will not affect breastmilk if you breastfeed as well:) and its also i good was not to forget a pill, patch, ect....:) good luck!
