When they put a Y or I or extra letters in a baby's name? I have seen some pretty messed up spellings of a baby's name.. setting them up for crap when they are in school and older in life. Parents think they are trying to do something creative and original.. .but everyone else is naming their kids the same way. Can't we just use the regular spellings?
Sorry for the rant.. but I'm tired of people thinking they are being different when they are all being the same with their child's name. Give me something truly different then you get your cookie!

to Em.... um if you will recall that we have NO SAY as to what our parents name us b/c we are not born yet..! keep personal slayings of people's names to yourself, how would you like it if someone said your name (i'm assuming Emily) was lame and sucked donkey balls? point made. think about what you write before you write it.
and i agree with what LeeAnn has said. if you want to do random names and spellings of names, get a dog or cat and name THEM that!

I completely agree with you. There are some sane people in the world.
It frustrates me that parents think they're being SO original! I mean get a life and someone call social services. It's terrible. Why can't people just be satisfied with Maria rather than Mariyah! Like omg so cool. I can understand when their from a different background where they add a J, like Marija, but that's at least reasonable.
I hate it when people have to give their kids such original names and spellings, such as Kyerielle. I mean that's not even a name. If it's not in the baby book, then obviously its not real.
Also, I don't like names with more hyphens and apostophes than letters. I worked with someone who named their daughter Tar-Lei'yiah. I mean what the hell. That's not even real. The person is though, go name a dog that. I even read a question on Y!A where someone was asking for names for a baby girl and someone suggested My'Unique-Angel. I would suggest they get themselves into a home if they seriously considered that as a name.
I'm on a roll sorry.
Ooh but Van is ace. My boyfriends name is Damien Van. Heh.

I agree. I HATE it when people add an extra "y" or some other vowel just to make the name look different even if it sounds the same. That is going to be so confusing for teachers and every other person they ever tell their name too. That kid will spend their whole life telling people how to spell their name, and it will be annoying as heck for them. I'm all for regular spellings!!

I'm in total agreeance. My neice's name is Kaeli Alexianna. It just seems like her mom tried WAY too hard to be "original." What people don't get is someone is only original and unique when they are that way without trying. If you go out of your way to make yourself different than you aren't really what you were trying to be in the first place. Don't know if that makes sense. lol.
I also hate this trend of people who say, "I like unique names." And then they name their child something like Madison, Ava, Nevaeh, Aiden, or whatnot. Those names are not unique. They've been in the top 20 lists for the last 5 years. They'll encounter as many people with their name as people did 10 years ago with names like Jessica, Jennifer, Amanda, and Joe. If you want to name your daughter Maddie -- fine -- but don't pride yourself on your ability to find a "unique" name.... because its not.

I agree. Giving names odd spellings just makes it harder to figure out. I prefer traditional spellings. They look nicer.
Several of my nieces used weird spelling for their kids' names and my first thought was, "Do they not even know how to spell something that simple?"

I like some original names, but I agree with you on the spelling thing. I do have a sister named Mikayla, and I love her to pieces, but I like Michaela better.

I know, I think it's funny that about twenty years from now the uncommon names will be James, William, Jennifer, and Brittany.
