Buy what's specificallly called a "carry-on" suitcase. It's specifically sized to fit inside the onboard compartments in commercial planes so you can keep it with you on the flight. Make sure it's sturdy. They make them with wheels.

Keep your most valuable stuff in your carry-on bag in case your other luggage gets lost and you have to camp out at an airport overnight.

For your regular luggage, get something sturdy as well. Good luck!

If you mean to put in the luggage area on the plane, just get a suit case. Make sure you look on-line for the restrictions different companies put on luggage size. It's just the best way to fly.

If you mean a carry on (you get your purse and one bag) I would take a type of backpack (the string tie kind) or one of those cute, bigger bags (pretty much glorified purses).

Good luck! Flying is easy. I was scared at first, but once the plane took off it was so amazing.

If you carry-on make certain that it's stow-able in the overhead. If you check your bags a hard-side is desirable for protection. In either case get one with wheels it will be indispensable.

Negatives about duffel bags: If you have to go through a check you will be unpacking in the airport. And I've noticed when I used a duffel that whatever I wanted was always on the bottom . Every time.

Try something with hard sides and wheels. The hard sides will keep your things from being broken, and the wheels make it a lot easier to drag your bags around the airport.

For bag/luggage anything will be good. Handy or Backpack but you must consider the fact of space for your all things in packed.

Duffel bags are best if you dont mind your stuff being thrashed a little bit.
I use rolling suitcases so that my stuff will be protected a little more and so that i can roll it around instead of carrying all that heavy stuff.

A good suit case, the duffel bag will work if you only have clothes nothing breakable.

Get a large backpack. It can carry a ton of stuff.
