when you first met your wife, did you know you wanted to be with her forever? how soon did you bring up marriage? did you ever have doubts or or commitment phobia?
my boyfriend and i are getting pretty serious but he hasn't brought up marriage at all. he's the type of person who likes to live completely in the present and never want to worry about the future. he's an absolutely wonderful guy, the most caring, understanding, sweet, generous person and i think i'd like to be with him for a very long time. its hard to say FOREVER, but i can definitely see myself with him long enough for marriage to brought up. when we were talking about going over to his family's house for christmas i asked if i should get a gift for his parents because i knew they were getting me a gift and he said "no, that feels too weird, like we're married or something" i'm just wondering if other guys go through phases were they don't consider marriage at all. we're both in our 20's by the way.

I was 24 and I thought it would be forever. I'm not in love with her anymore. Marriage destroyed that. If you are happy don't change it. Don't ruin it by getting married. Honestly take a look at all the married people you know?!?!?! Do you want to be that miserable too!??! THINK!!!

dated wife for 5 years while in university
married at age 26
still happily married for 16 years with two wonderful kids

This is my personal point of view - if you are serious ( man or women) and you are in your 20's then marriage should not be a scary thing but something both should look forward to. If you goal is marriage down the road and he is not then discuss it now so you don't waste your time.

Probably best to ask him his views on marriage instead of asking strangers. Women are often caught up in the forever sooner than guys are, so the fact that he doesn't want you to exchange gifts with his parents screams that he isn't thinking of forever yet.

When I met my wife I was a shy person and I
didn't want to even get married when she wanted
to , even after we had been going steady for
about 2yrs. However after I left because of my
job and had not heard from her or she from me
in 5yrs, because of my job, when I saw that she
was still single when we did meet up again that
was the seal of approval and so we did get
married about a year later and have been happily
married going on 21yrs.

1) No
2) 2 years
3) Once I committed, no.

All guys say things without thinking. I hear what your saying,
but he's not saying what you're hearing. The holidays are a
time that affects relationships. It can nuture or deteriorate it.
I'd cruise through the holiday and see how it goes from there.
