If you don't know the right combos and aren't proficient with a spray gun you might just as well use a roller. It won't look any worse. Handling a spray gun well enough to put a good looking paint job on a car takes a lot of training and years of practice. If you don't believe it find the nearest Earl Scheibs or Maacos. They use cheap paint and painters with low skills and their paint jobs show it in their lack of quality.

mustange is 100% right. i know that Hot Rod magazine tries to tell you that it's so easy to paint your own car, but it's not. it's a skill that is learned and honed just like any other. it's a talent some have and some don't. these days we also have to know so much about the chemicals we use and how to apply them and how they react and how to handle and use them safely and so much more that we are no longer painters, we are paint technicians. i've been painting for 24 yrs, and the products are always changing. you really have to know what you're doing to do it right. let me add this, painting can be very dangerous without the proper respirator and ventilation. don't try it at your home. one more thing, if you don't have the proper filters to eliminate the moisture in your air lines, you can not possibly get a good paint job no matter how good you are. and there is no such thing as a standard gun any more. you need to know what size gun to use for the paint you're using. like i said, it is not simple.
