A Man's Lament

Mercy me!!!
After all the promises I made to myself, I am still not done my Christmas shopping.
"Right after December first," I said.
Yet here it is nearly Christmas eve, and I still don't have a gift for the wife and several other people.
Doing that shopping today is going to be awful.
I will be with all the other procrastinators, mostly men.
Driving to the mall will be more dangerous than crossing the country in a covered wagon 200 years ago.
Yesterday would not have been much better.
Oh, why did I wait so long!!
Unless I get lucky, the wife's gift will be something nobody else deemed good enough to buy.
Knowing my luck, I'll pay twice what it is worth too..
Now I'll never find that perfect gift for her.
Only a man would let it come to this.
Why, oh why, did I wait so long.

Merry Christmas yelled the children!
All the decorations were up and the party was starting.
Right next to the punch bowl was a big space though.
You forgot the cookies said Jimmy.
Did not said Joe.
I brought them in.
Do you see them?
You ate them didn't you?
Only one.
Under the table were many crumbs.
Kevin knelt down to sweep them up on a plate.
Now the case is solved.
Oreos were set out to replace the eaten cookies.
Whew that was almost too much for one Chrismas Party.

Mary and Joseph rode into town on a donkey.
Any place they might rest was full.
Round with child, she feared for them all.
Yet she had faith in the Lord.

Down in the stables a man said they could stay.
Is the Lord to be born here, among the animals?
Dad, Joseph waited impatiently.

Yes! The Lord is born!
Oh, Emmanuel! Bow to the child king!
Under the bright star, wise men came.

Kneeling before the child, the wise men laid their gifts down.
Now they knew for sure the Savior was here!
Oh how the world rejoiced.
What a wondrous gift God gave to us all.
