What has changed is that we as a society have become "sensitive" to other cultures. So much so that it is now considered politically incorrect to express anything that has anything to do with the Christian faith or Christian holidays.
Have you noticed that even commercials with a Santa in them have him saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas? Now, I don't care what persuasion you may be, but if you see a Santa you might have a clue that it is a Christmas ad. So why can't Santa say Merry Christmas? It might "offend" someone?!?
Gimme a break.
I am a Christian, but if someone wishes me a Happy Kwanza or Happy Chanukkah I say thanks, the same to you. I don't get all upset about it. They are wishing me well on a day that is special to them. so, why can't we say "Merry Christmas"? It's not as if I am telling someone off or telling them to drop dead.

If it's Christian, it is not politically correct and is unacceptable, or so it seems.

Merry Christmas !

NOTHING is wrong with wishing someone a Merry Christmas! I am a Christian and refuse to take Christ out of the holiday. That being said, I try to be a very tolerant individual so if someone were to wish me a Happy Kwanza or anything else, I would wish them the same :) It's just a well wish, people need to stop being so uptight and stupid about it!

And Merry Christmas to you!

No, it's just that people get offended for you assuming that they are normal like the rest of the world. So, being specific is slighty frowned upon. So to all a happy holiday whatever the muck it is you celebrate.

And Merry Christmas to you too!

I think it's cause we're trying to show multiculturalism in all aspects of life now-a-days, and saying Merry Christmas can hurt a Jew's or Muslim's feelings.

I say "jog on!" to the lot of them and "Merry Christmas, everybody!"

I agree with you to a certain extent, however if I don't know the person I'm saying it to, I say Happy Holidays because you never know. But I do think we need to have a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree, and so on.

Merry Christmas to you also!

I don't know why people make a big deal out of it. I'm Atheist and I don't celebrate christmas (don't even give/get gifts which is fine with me...I'm a neo-hippe all I need is my guitar and I'm good)
but I don't care when people say merry christmas to me or anything I mean....I think it's nice for people to say it. screw happy holidays. lol

merry christmas ya'll
