I'm thinking about getting a sportbike, duh. But what kind? It would be my first.. I want something kinda fast and cool. (Not too fast mind you.) Was thinking about a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa, Honda CBR 600RR, or Yamaha R1. OR, just tell me a good one to get. I'm not wanting to go over 7k.

BTW I can't get a new bike at 7k... So it would be used. Just to let you ppl know..

Thank You!

Hey congratulations on wanting a bike. Now lets get to it.

First of all a busa.... really? >< "ps not the fastest bike zx14 is faster : P"

Second, some of these people don’t know diddily about bikes if they are suggesting Yamaha sport bikes.
“bring it on Yamaha fan boys!”

The CBR600RR is a very nice bike. "I myself am not a Honda person" but if you were to get a Honda sport then the 600RR is the one to get. Honda's aren’t cheap though. The 07 "which is the good one" sells for a hefty 11k+ "You could
almost get a fing 1000cc for that!" < not recommended though.

Kawasaki's and Suzuki's make great affordable bikes. Suzuki's SV’s and GSX-R's are all great and Kawasaki has some of the best bikes made, not to mention some of the best variety’s. The ZX Ninja's are all great. The 636 would be perfect for you and its affordable. They stopped using the 636 though, it was last used in last year’s ZX-6R (02-06), not the RR series which is the 599cc engine they had to use to be able to race . Kawi also has many other great bikes like the Z series, 650R, 500R, 250R, and the Versys.

Triumph also has some great bikes such as the Daytona 675, street triple and speed triple.

Aprilia has a really great bike they just released called the 750 Shiver which looks hot and its affordable.

Their are just too many great bikes out their.

Good luck

Here’s some tips for your insurance:

If you have to have a super sport bike then keep the cc’s in the 750 and under range is will save you huge in insurance .

If you get a sport "not supersport" or standard it will also save you in insurance.

The R1 and the Busa are two of the fastest bikes out there... if I were you I would get the R6 by Yamaha... I've been with Yamaha for several years now (having already been through Honda and Suzuki) and Yamaha has the best motor out of all of them... greatest handling as well... you can't go wrong with a Yamaha and the R6 is the best bike to start out on. You can probably pick up one with only a couple hundred miles on it for 7k as well... on top of everything else, the Yamaha looks the coolest with the pointed nose and raised tail (notice how both Honda and Suzuki have changed their 08 models to look more like the Yamaha)

For a first motorcycle, you'll want one that will inspire confidence and let you learn how to ride, not one that's got so much power and such twitchy handling you're scared to try pushing it hard. You can then trade up to the bike of your dreams once you've got to the point where you've really learned how to push a small bike hard. It wouldn't do to be the guy who shows up for a track day with a liter sport bike and gets lapped by a 350 cc dirt bike on knobby tires.

There's four good first sport bikes on the market in the US right now. In alphabetical order, they're the Buell Blast, the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and 500, and the Suzuki GS500F. If you want to ride fast, get one of these, take a riding class, then spend a year learning how to push one of these to its limits.

First bike, starter bike?

I'd go with something in the 250 - 500 cc range while you learn the ropes. A 1000 cc or 600 cc supersport are not good first options!

Oh, and you CAN get new ones in this range for under 7k, but still go used, because if it is your first bike, you will probably scuff it once or twice.

Here are some good choices:
1. Suzuki GS500F
2. Buell Blast
3. Kawasaki Ninja 250
4. Kawasaki Ninja 500
5. Suzuki SV650
6. Hyosung Comet 650

Go to the dealer, sit on them, test ride if you can, take the MSF rider course if you don't yet know how to ride a street bike.

Have fun!

If you are looking for a used starter sportbike, I would suggest the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6. As a starter bike, you should get a 600cc bike and for the last couple of years, the ZX6 is the best in class in my opinion. Of course if you are looking for a new bike (2007+) - the Yamaha R6 beats everything hands down.

Not too fast Hyabasa? Are you out of your mind?

Get a Ninja250, silly! then you can have a new bike, still be able to afford the insurance, and obviously you are very young, so you will NEVER be able to afford insurance on any of the bikes you mentioned.

Ride that a season or two, then you will grow out of sportbikes anyway, after all, squids are kids!
