Actually 29's are more like a size 8/9 and 28's are like a size 6/7.
But yes clothes sizes do vary from store to store. You could be a size 2 in one store and a size 6 somewhere else.
And american clothes sizes are the worst because from sizes 00 to 10 there is only one inch between each size so it's very easy for sizes to cross over. Some store's have a size 00 with a 22/23 inch waist and others with a 23/24 inch waist, by the time you get to a size 10, it can either be a 28/29 inch waist or 29/30 inch waist.

The answer is because America's sizing is no longer accurate and it hasn't been in many years. Why would you guess that a DKNY size 28 translates to a 7/8? Is she doing waist and length now for jeans? Also, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? That would give more information to ascertain the size you should be wearing across the board. You cannot be a size 2/4 and also be an 8/10. It's impossible.

Some brands use "vanity sizing" where they size the jeans smaller to make you feel better about yourself so that you are more likely to buy them. Other than that, companys use different sizing standards where the hip to waist ratio varies. Aside form this, Notify has uses an interesting sizing mechanisim. Thier jeans incorporate "sculpt" which means they are sized more like a bra. If you have a large booty and a small waist, these jeans might fit you best. I have found that you just have to try the jeans on and don't pay attention to the number because there is no sizing standard.

Three words. Foreign made goods.
I've noticed that the size labels mean absolutely nothing. I have jeans that feel the same size but are listed as 34" and 36" waist.
You have to try everything on these days because of the lax overseas manufacturing standards.

its def hard when it comes to different clothing companies bc a lot of companies have different size values. the larger numbers like 28 and 30 are the waist sizes. and im not quite sure how the 2's and 4's work. just make sure that u either try on the cloths b4 u buy them, or kno wat size u r for that specific company. :)
good luck!

Yeah, every brand of jeans has their different cut. There is no way you'll know for sure what exactly fits unless you try them on in the store. I hate the numbers too, I'm always caught in that situation too!

There isn't really a standard measurement when it comes to clothes and can vary largely between styles and designers. I wouldn't worry about it. If you compare waist bands of the jeans i am sure they will be fairly similar.

You really shouldn't worry about the numbers. All brands run differently, especially for women. Just find the pair that fits best, and never think about numbers again. They'll drive you crazy.
