Thank's for the feed-back,guy's/girl's!

I knew i could count on the "Yahoo Community" to help me out,and you haven't dissapointed!

I've also realised..,that my own calculation, was spot on...which makes me think...i do know more than i may think in the first place, but i'm not confident enough to trust my own judment and ability when it comes to figures....

10% of any number is easily found by moving the decimal point 1 digit to the left. 10% of 55.99 = 5.599 or 5.60 after rounding. 55.99 - 5.60 = 50.39. Don't forget any taxes.

STEVEN F has given the best answer. To get the answer in one go, then a reduction of the price by 10% is in fact the same as finding 90% of the original price. So if you put £55.99 into a calculator and multiply it by 0.9 (point nine) it will give you the answer in one go. £50.391 or in other words £50.39.
