its an HP Pavillion and its been working fine, this morning i turned it on but the screen stil stayed black, is there something i should look for? the power light shows its on.. but just the monitor is busted.. its like 2 months old

You may have inadvertantly switched your laptop to use it's external monitor connection. try using Fn+f4 or some other Fuction key combo to switch from lcd to crt or however it is labeled on your device.
If that doesn;'t help, it is possible that the open switch is borked. That works like the refrigerator light. When the door is closed, the light is off. It should be little push button that gets pressed when the lid closes. Try poking that thing a few times.....

try the fn and crt/lcd buttons, press them together, it should work don't know where it will be because we have diff. laptps.
