What am I doing wrong? pendrivelinux?

there is this site http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/12/04/usb-pclinuxos-2007-install-tutorial/
and i have a 4 gb flashdrive that i want to put this on.. i did everything that it told me to do yet when i run it from booting from usb, it just brings up a full screen terminal.. gives me the screen like, "login:" so i type in root, and then password so i type in root..

then it just brings up a terminal.. why doesn't it bring up a desktop? can anybody help me?

try typing startx in the terminal
