Some guy who happens to be white said ***** accidentally or maybe not and I did not care. But I felt under pressure to give him crap and maybe throw a fit...Is this necessary?

if you're comfortable with who you are, you wont care. i'm black and if someone throws that word around, i either ignore it or laugh, i'm too smart to stoop down to that level and act out. you shouldn't really let your ethnicity define your actions, you are your own person.

The n'word means of low worth, having no value, inferior. What if you were about to have sex with a girl and right when u pulled your pants down she told you that you had little penis? That same feeling is what the n'word represents. You would feel inadequate, not good enough. The word is negative. The reason why blacks use the n-word now is because....it's like turning lemons into lemonade. We use it in a positive manner to bring ourselves up. Just like when we use the word "man"....like Yo what's up, man?. We use "man" because white people used to call us "boy", as in a small, untrained, immature person, who has to do what his father tells him. Older black people hate the n'word and don't like the way younger blacks use it. The older blacks want to completely destroy the word. I agree. The white who used this word is a racist person and did the ultimate disrespect towards a black person. You should feel a little dissapointed with that.

"Why do we black people fuss about the term ****** so much? " Dude, if I (being white) have to tell you that this word is the most offensive word to call your people, can you really walk off feeling intelligent? That word should not be used by ANYONE.You don't have to give anyone crap or get violently angry but you shouldn't accept the word being used around you. You are not a "n**ger, you are a HUMAN BEING!!!

because about 20 years ago it was still used primarily (ok... only) by whites as a nasty and derogatory word towards black people. now, it almost has been given a new meaning, but white people have to keep in mind 20 years really isn't that long a time. the word has history. give it another decade or so and nobody will care so much anymore, that's my prediction anyway.

there are derogatory terms and names for many ethnicities, cultures, religions, and races. I'm Jewish- believe me, I've heard some terrible names- and some were used on me for no other reason than that I'm Jewish. I DO know what it feels like and ALL those negative names ought to be wiped out of everyone's vocabulary.

It is necessary for the return of Respect for each other in this country. I think if we all conciously try not to refer to anyone of another race, sex, or religion, by a derogatory term- accidently or on purpose- this would help to end racism and the perception of racism. No matter who you are, there is someone out there that could think of a nasty, hurtful thing to say about you or your group, No one is exempt; this is why we must all stop speaking of and about each other in negative and derogatory ways. My nephew was watching football this past Sunday and he repeatedly used the "N" word to refer to one of the players (my nephew is Black and was actually using the term in an "affectionate" sense), and after the third time he said it, I asked him to please not say that and to think about it everytime it came to mind. I don't think we can expect other people to stop using this term in relation to us, if we use it on each other.

it's just something to grip at the Whites about- that way many of the blacks can avoid real issues within the black community

Who's "we"? I didn't realize the CEOs and programming directors of NBC and AE and advertisers who booted Imus and the Doghunter guy out where black?

As for people insulting people to their faces...it shouldn't be done, across the board. It shows lack of class and poor upbringing.
