That is a tough one. I am gong to say Beach Boys cause of California song. My mom and I listened to it all the time when I was little and now that she has passed away, I am kinda fond to hearing it.

The Beatles will win most popularity votes because of their worldwide appeal & wide range of music. The Lennon-McCartney songwriting genius propelled them into glory during their heyday & into perpetuity because the songs still live on with the next generation. The Beach Boys were an American home-grown sound that appealed to the masses with their melodic lyrics and beautiful harmonies, but not nearly a match to The Beatles overall appeal.

The Beach Boys were great and I love many of their songs, but the Beatles were the greatest.

Clearly the Beatles. They were the true musical innovators for over a decade and went on individually to still cut new ground in the music industry.
The Beach Boys managed to pick up on the "California" sound but it was gone within 5 years. The true innovators of that sound belong to groups and individuals like Dickie Dale and The Ventures.

the beach boys were one of the biggest entertainment scams ever. a bunch of kids from the midwest who didn't even know how to swim, better yet had never seen the ocean singing about surfing and beach babeesss. what a joke...
