I'm a college student. I managed to get transfered to a college mid-term closer to home. My parents have been very ill lately and I need to get there. They're financially strapped and unable to help me very much to make my move. I'm trying my best to get out there, but to be honest, I assumed they'd be able to help me more then they can. Since I can't go back and change things I have to find a way to move myself and a few boxes over 1200 miles. I attended NYCU so I let my license expire. I've asked some old friends but they are unable to make the trip so close to the holidays. Any suggestions please? Money and time are a factor. Thankyou in advance.

It's Christmas time. DMV is not open until after the new year. I need to start school on January 2nd. Getting my license back is not an option at this time.

I don't know about your location, but most DMV offices ARE open regular schedule except for the actual holidays. The NYS DMV website SPECIFICALLY states offices ARE open Christmas Eve. Unless you need to retake the road test, you should be able to renew your license and rent a U-Haul or a small truck. If that is not an option, there are NO 'cheap' options this week.

First you should renew your license so that you can drive. Probably the cheapest move is by renting U-Haul truck, the smallest available that will fit all your possessions. If you don't have much, you may be able to rent a hitch and trailer to attach to your car.

I have moved numerous times all over the country, and always by U-Haul. My last move required two 24' trucks and 2 days of driving from Texas to Florida. .
