So, I had to run to the store tonight for milk, and I saw something that disturbed me. Next to the milk section, they had the Hershey's chocolate syrup display, but they had this new (or I think it's new) product called Magic Milk Mix. They make milk flavorings that "taste" like cotton candy, bubblegum and a few others. I was slightly appalled by the fact that they think there is a need for milk tasting like candy.

Curious, I compared the labels, and Nesquik, Hershey's and the store brand had a lot less sugar. Magic Milk is pure sugar with a lot of other uneccesary chemicals.

I'm just wondering if anyone has every used this brand, and if so, what were your reasons for using pure sugar to make your children drink milk?

Here's a link to a blog reviewing Magic Milk, since I can't find an actual website for the company.

It apparently makes the milk change colors too. I guess that would be what the extra chemicals are for.
Ny Attitude, it great that your son learned to like milk without additives, children need to like the taste of milk. My son hates flavored milk, which makes me happy.

YUCK!
No we do not put additives in the milk here. They drink it plain. I think this is horrible for kids who must have the additive in it to drink it. They need to get used to the flavor of the milk as it is, not doctored.

Hokie- I have seen babies in my school who come in with their parents with soda in a bottle, chocolate milk in a bottle, etc. They wonder why their children have silver caps and rotten teeth.

This is a BAD idea.

Edited to add:
Many of you know our son has autism. He hated the taste of milk for so long- and his doctor said for us to put chocolate in his milk to make him drink it. I did some research and discovered if he would eat foods high in calcium and he took a supplement to be sure, he would be ok. Guess what? It worked! He ate yogurt, broccoli (thankfully he loves it), cottage cheese, cheese, and he got a supplement each day. He ate cereal with the milk and now, he loves milk. He drinks it all the time. I am really glad I didn't put additives in it for him- or I believe he never would have gotten used to the taste.

When I was a child I absolutely hated milk. My mom basically had to force it down my throat... and it had to be chocolate milk. I still hate milk and never ever drink it, but at least I can take vitamins now. Unfortunately there are probably a lot of kids just like that out there. You are right, there are better brands with less sugar and parents should at least look for those, but the sad fact is most parents just get whatever appeals to the child instead of looking for the more healthy items.

Sounds nasty to me. Milk already tastes sweet to me. I find it odd that a company would feel the need to make milk taste any sweeter. Milk is the most natural thing there is and the first flavor a baby ever experiences, it makes no sense that they would want to add flavors to it.
My only thought would be that they are trying to make it more desirable to children who don't like milk, but if a kid doesn't like milk there is no need to give it to them or make it sweet to get them to like it. If it's the calcium factor that the parent wants to get into the child, there are several other foods out there that are high in calcium without having to add all that sugar. No one needs that much sugar, let alone a child!
It's just a money making product, it's sad that they are messing with children's health by placing that on the shelves for unsuspecting parents to purchase who don't do their research first.

My daughter absolutely HATES milk. I used to fight and fight with her about it. She hates cheese, but will occasionally eat yogurt. I still refuse to buy crap like Magic Milk, or the flavored milk straws. I do, however, use Ovaltine. It's super yummy, and is full of other vitamins and minerals. Why people actually buy stuff like Magic Milk for their children when there are so many other healthy options is beyond me.

I've never used it or seen it in the stores. They probably named it Magic Milk since the Milk has disappeared in all that sugar.

Whole milk is God's perfect drink. Why mess with perfection.

Nope never used it and never will. I was raised where you couldn't get milk. You had to drink powdered milk if you drank milk at all.

That being said love the taste of whole milk. I mean real milk none of that 5% or 2% or 1% stuff that tastes chalky like powdered milk.

That sounds about as pukey as green Ketchup or green tobasco sauce.

Ew, bubble gum flavoured milk!!! Yuck! Makes me sick thinking about it!!!
My boys & me love milk!! I swear they would drink it straight out of a cow sometimes!!!
Unfortunately they haven't always been like this. When they were about 10 months old they completely stopped drinking milk. I tried all the formula brand I could lay my hands on.
Then I found a Toddler formula which has a chocolate flavour in it, plus all the vitamins and nutrient's little boys (and girls) need.

I couldn't give my boys sugar like that, it would send them crazy!! One year my Grandfather gave them a drink of coke, and they were climbing up the walls at 1am!!! Never again.

Merry Christmas

This has been this form of favorite excuse in the process the years for many pupils. the instructor might promptly believe which you have been mendacity. I certainly have been accused of no longer drawing a image of a mouse back interior the day. the instructor gave me an 'F' because of the fact she felt i replaced into no longer being straightforward. I challenged the instructor to observe me draw the mouse and to furnish me an 'A' if she believed me. nicely, I did and she or he gave me my 'A.' you're able to get your mom and father or roommates to place in writing out something relating to the reality that this fairly befell. It nonetheless would be as much as the instructor to coach recognition. I wish you plenty fulfillment. What shall we then say to those issues? If GOD be for us, WHO could be against us? - Romans 8:31 The Lord on an ordinary basis loadeth us with reward, even the GOD of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm sixty 8:19 Peace!

It sounds disgusting. I think if a parent can't just teach their child to drink milk in other ways (making Ovaltine, having it in healthy cereal) wihtout having to put something like that in it, they should just stop trying to make their child drink milk. That sounds realy disgusting and the things they are making for kids these days are really disgusting and Jackson will NEVER be drinking something like that.
If, when he's older, he does not like milk I will give him plenty of other things that provide calcium...like cheese, yogurt ,etc etc
