now under suspicion herself for her glaring inconsistencies in her account.

"A model who claimed she was raped at the Manchester United Christmas party may be charged herself, it was claimed last night.

Police sources say there are glaring inconsistencies between the written, audio and video statements by the 26-year-old woman. "

IF this woman lied, she should receive actual jail time for this.

a) She is completely undermining genuine rape victim cases

b) She had the potential to destroy a mans life and reputation.

c) Wasting police time that could have been spent investigating REAL crimes.

Should she not receieve an appropriate sentence for this? And Im talking about actually sitting in a jail, not some suspended sentence rubbish.

I agree with Mossy Jan and others here, that this (if true) or any false allegation does nothing to help a victim of rape, or of any other 'crime against the person' - be it rape or across the spectrum to bullying - where it can be difficult to either prove or substantiate actual happenings.

Jail may be appropriate, or how about him suing her, or something like 'Public Stocks,' where, on show, the public themselves can get to vent a spleen or two for such behaviour!

This kind of thing makes me nervous - as the case of the Scotsman held for 20 years on Death Row in America for arson and the death of a child. Not only was there no evidence connecting him to the crime, but apparently, the mother of the child had a history to do with 'liking fire' ...all of which was either ignored or not taken into account... by ''The Courts of Law over there''.

That scares me.

Sash.

i agree fully. there was a case not so long ago where a girl cried rape and destroyed the mans life with her accusations and she got jail time. the man unfortunately still has problems due to her accusations as there are people who believe her even though she had to admit in court that she lied. there has been a few cases of women who accuse footballers of rape and it seems any man in the public eye is open to these women who get a knock back then cry rape. it makes it harder for genuine cases to be taken seriously or it can put genuine victims off in coming forward to report this horrible crime.

This is why I'm always cautious when women accuse footballers of rape (Leicester City in La Manga is a great example), and you're right, it does detract from real victims. I say sling the liars in jail, and name and shame them. Unfortunately, this sort of thing makes the real victims scared to come forward for fear of not being able to get the rapist convicted, and as a result, more women are keeping quiet about a horrific ordeal.

If it is proven that this woman lied, she should be slung in jail and named and shamed to the papers. She could have had an innocent man put away, she's destroyed his Christmas, and he could have lost his career. Shocking behaviour.

I applaud Shayna's comment.

Lying about rape is sick and should be dealt with severely. But here's a thing to chew. How does the systen establish who is lying?

Look at the appalingly low conviction rates for rape. Are you telling me that the incredibly huge majority of women are lying about this, and that the courts are always accurate? So in that case, every woman who is unable to secure a conviction should be named and shamed?

What about drugged victims who (and this is a proven FACT) often do not fully recall the experience due to the nature of the drug?? Name and shame them? Chuck 'em in jail for wanting the justice that, statistically, they are sickeningly unlikely to ever get under the British ''justice system''?

One last thing. Say that a woman DOES lie about this (which is a godawful thing to do.) The media 'names and shames' her so we all know who she is. There are many twisted sods out there who would hunt her down and do it for real, to ''teach heR a lesson''. Knowing that she will never be believed and is therefore highly unlikely to seek justice.

Not quite as cut and dry as you think, is it.

Yes. Jail time would be appropriate, but would probably never be administered, unfortunately. If she has been found to be lying, then she'll be done with wasting police time automatically. Slander carries large damages, anyway. Paying off, say, a hundred thousand pounds for a damaged reputation isn't exactly easy. If she can't pay for that, then go to jail in lieu.

I wish women would not lie about this kind of thing. It makes it harder for genuine women to come forward.

She should receive an actual custodial sentence

as she is making a mockery out of the system and belittling real rape victims

If the woman is absolutely proven to be lying then she should be punished. Making false allegations about such a horrendous crime is despicable.

However, the comment in one answer that ''a lying accusation of rape is no better than rape itself'' is absurd. Rape is far worse and it is beyond ridiculous (not to mention completely ignorant) to state otherwise. It must be hideous to be falsely accused of something so vile, and yes it is disgusting to lie about such a thing,... but to equate an act of sexual brutality with that is nonsensical and is insulting every raped person in existence. Get real and get your priorities straight as you clearly have no idea of what you are talking about.

False rape claims are sick and disgusting though - I would never
argue with THAT.

Yeah I agree with you,a prison sentence is the only sentence that fits the crime.I read somewhere that it was actually her boyfriend who called the police,so maybe she was with the player and the boyfriend found out and she made up a story about being attacked by him.

if she has lied about the events then yes she should be given actual jail time. she should also be banned from any and all media coverage, because if she lied it would be for the resultant media coverage to further her modelling career, in australia that could be called profiting from a crime.

Women who make a false report about rape should be jailed. They are destroying someones life with their accusations. Plus it casts too much doubt on women who file a legitimate report.
